Title: Poor Mans Blues
Post by: The Gobi Desert Canoe Club on July 15, 2023, 10:08:26 AM
Hi all, yet another quick recording, hope you enjoy.   Willie

Wind keeps blowing and it looks like rain
Got no job I'm in the queue again
Looking for a handout to mend my shoes
Guess I've got a poor mans blues

Sold the farm 'cos it weren't no good
I paid my debts like a good man should
Bowl of soup and a piece of bread
Won't be long 'til I think I am dead

Spent my last money on a bottle of wine
Lying on the sidewalk well it ain't no crime
Wife left me for a richer man
I got no job but I do what I can

Sold the farm 'cos it weren't no good
I paid my debts like a good man should
Bowl of soup and a piece of bread
Won't be long 'til I think I am dead

Instrumental

Sold the farm 'cos it weren't no good
I paid my debts like a good man should
Bowl of soup and a piece of bread
Won't be long 'til I think I'll be dead

It keeps on raining the sun don't shine
If you wanna talk, well, I've got the time
So I just sit hoping hoping for news
I guess I've got a poor mans blues

Sold the farm 'cos it weren't no good
I paid my debts like a good man should
Bowl of soup and a piece of bread
Won't be long 'til I think I am dead

A cool song with a country roots blues vibe. The guitar solos are tops...I dig those whammy parts you've put in. Some fine vocals and story lyrics!

It's a great country rock jam, in the tradition of Steve Earle.

Good lyrics and great playing.

jangly, raspy greatness.... a real treat of sounds... the voice over that guitar sounds so familiar...like I have heard it all my life on the radio...

superior tune...superior... and so well played.

Straight off the bat, amazing guitar work! Those licks are so great, with excellent tone. The lyrics really well done here as well. Really fine work!

Whammy licks give a pedal steel guitar vibe - dig this style alot and this song nails it! 8)

Always love it when the jangle comes to town. Great bluesy lyrics, with the arrangement in your inimitable style. They fit together so well.

Reminds strongly of some of Bruce Springsteen's driving acoustic work, and also has an 'Eagles' 'On The Border' album vibe to it. I can imagine singing along with this while motorway/freeway driving. An excellent production of a jaunty, driving number. Well done.  8)
