Title: The Interview Thread
Post by: Blooby on August 20, 2021, 04:49:14 AM
Thought it might be cool to have a central place for interesting interviews via YouTube or Podcast links. I'll get the ball rolling with a recent Pat Metheny.

That is uncanny... I am halfway through watching this interview when I saw this on SC... interesting video too.

This is a documentary by Alan Lomax, and has a series of interviews with OG Delta bluesmen about the origins of the "Blues". I stumbled across it on PBS when I was about 18 years old and recorded it on VHS tape back then. I have watched this at least a dozen times over the last 30 years and even bought the accompanying book a while back.

Sometimes i'll go to sleep while listening to something. This time it didn't really work as i couldn't help feeling like i was participating in this particularly drunken interview of sorts.
Jake E. Lee (Ozzy Osbourne, Badlands etc.) and David Friedman (The amp guru) are totally shit-faced in this Tone-talk interview. There's talk about smoking in hotel rooms and fishing. Even other people arrive into the room like Jakes girlfriend whose been waiting downstairs for over two hours and has been mistaken as a hooker while doing so...
after watching this I realized why it took so long for Boston to put out albums. In this interview Tom Sholz actually said that he always felt insecure about his music and that it wasn't as good as what was on the radio. My thoughts are that the first two Boston albums match up against just about any two first albums put out by anybody pretty darn well.... However the difficulties of working with Tom was wearing on band members and eventually brought about the exodus of Brad Delp and Barry Goodreau (and essentially Sib Hashian, drummer was "drummed" out).... I would say we probably never will know how many sound designs were inspired by this guy. I had a rockman X100 and I loved that thing. I literally wore it out.

Thanks for these. I'm using these to fall asleep. No pun intended. I just like to listen to stuff like this while drifting away. It's only when the commercials start plasting i throw the tablet away and start all over :D

Another decent interview... nice chap from XTC with some songwriting insights. And surprised to see a relatively well known artist playing a Harley Benson!
Fascinating interview, Mike - thanks for posting that. It's always worth catching an interview with Andy - I've learned bits and pieces by watching him in the past. And I loved that he endorsed Harley Benton as a decent, cheap guitar, as it were. I'm all about those, these days. I have a few Firefly guitars (also made in China, but more easily available in the USA) that are great value for the money.
Anyway, I've gotten only about 10 min into the interview as it's a work day, but I bookmarked it and will catch the rest later.

Listening to this interview I keep thinking how glad I am that the interviewer isn't Rick Beato. Andy chooses and invents some interesting chords. Beato would want to completely dissect every one.

Here's a two-for-one interview. Both Claypool and Ribot come across as down-to-earth guys. Somehow, I was expecting them to be real weirdos.

Good interview. Makes me want to (finally) do a shallow dive into Sonic Youth.
Quote from: WTF with Marc Maron PodcastSonic Youth founding member Thurston Moore is not just an influential figure in the evolution of Noise Rock and the no-wave art scene. He's a chronicler of subversive music and other forms of artistic expression, as detailed in his memoir Sonic Life. Thurston talks with Marc about living on the Lower East Side in the '70s and '80s and the people who were part of the scene, including Patti Smith, The Ramones and Thurston's future bandmate and wife Kim Gordon.

I recall seeing Crimson on the Three of a Perfect Pair tour. I am so stinking excited about this.
Yeah, really enjoying this interview guys... thanks for posting. I don't mind to admit, anyone who gets to see these guys live I am insanely jealous of. Looks like they made decision to tour the US only, I am finding this hard to swallow :'( :'( :'(

Another good one from Rick... a bit of a reality check on where music is going
