Ok,one for the Cut Up Fest.
This was a really tough one. Took me a long time to come to terms with how to go about doing the cut-up thing. I tried loads of times but my brain wouldn't accept the fact they made no sense. But I put it aside for a week or so, then gave it another bash. Anyway I found some Wikipedia nonsense about "Woke" stuff and "Anti-woke" stuff, threw in an article about war and some nasty shit from Nazi wiki pages. I cut them up into various sections mixing sentences up, etc, then stuck them all in the online generator thingy, copied put back through the generator a few times. I then sifted through it picking lines that I liked and pieced it together. Mind bending shit... good stuff though... quite cathartic for someone like me who really likes things to have a conventional structure.
Think I'll go for a lie down now :)
First off, the music is brilliant. I love the drum beat and the reverb/ echo in the guitar sound wonderful. Reminded me a bit of The cure. It's amazing what those lyric generators throw up. I think I'll try one soon. The lyrics and even the title seem to fit perfectly with the subject.
Great vocals too btw. :) Darren
This fab Mike love the music ....your vocal stands out the lyric generator seems to make sense to me great job on this worth the perseverance
Listening on cans... fantastic track...the bass pulses to the drum beat....resonating... I just dig your vocals here Mike...I can feel your energy...your effort ...I hear things I haven't before in your vocals...its like the way young Grace Slick sang in Jefferson Airplane....
May have been hard...it was worth it... you made something really good...
Dude... This is friggin' amazing! Badass groove and I can't keep my head from moving around. Those slowly strummed chords are captivating and the vox are mixed perfectly
Love this tune!
Your efforts produced fantastic results Mike, ... this is a very good tune.
A1 - enjoyed it very much.
The guitar tone and playing is SO good. And I like the (sort of) uplifting verses contrasting with those bleak, dystopian chords on the chorus. The whole thing works brilliantly and sounds great - musically and lyrically. I'd say it's a damn near perfect cut-up execution.
I feel your pain. I struggled with letting go of my OCD enough to accept lines of random nonsense (just doesn't compute...). Glad you did though! :-)
I have tried to do this a couple times but i am having problems doing it this is not the case with this one love the playing and the lyrics
Tim
I'm glad you stuck with the cut up process Mike because it spawned this excellent song! Great guitar sound and the words fit well with the songs' style. Well done! Like you, I'm also having some difficulty wrapping my mind around the cut up process.....it seems helter skelter to my organized mind.
The production here is fantastic, Mike and the drumming is awesome as is the guitar work. I don't know anything about (or have even heard of) a lyric generator but it sounds interesting. Whatever the process involved, you've ended up with a great track, well done.
utterly entrancing and fantastic...lyrically and vocally this reminds me greatly of Joy Division.....utterly fantastic....your experiment was a great success....
A stellar entry Mike. The cut up lyrics have quite a level of depth to them, with a foreboding and almost mechanical quality to them. The chords are great in here, pretty unorthodox progession but it really works well. Excellent guitar work too, you have so much character when you play lead.
This is superb Mike, really worth the effort. I love the lyrics, I'm glad you persevered with them. The cut up approach throws up some odd sounding ideas and phrases but if you tweak them a bit and also find some interesting sources for the generator, you end up with something really unique. Which is what I think you have here, it's sounds a bit off the wall (which gives it a great edge) but there's a lot of sense in there as well.
The music is great as well, I love that off kilter second chord in the "All wars human" line, it really sticks in the brain and creates a bit of dissonance. The guitars sound fab and I love the solo, great use of the flangey/chorussy sound - it sounds great but you also use the sound really well in the solo. The vocals are really well done as well, and the whole mix hangs together really well.
Finally, I really like the drums - how did you do them? The pattern over the "All wars human" works really well.
A belter, really enjoyed this one!
yeah baby.
I'd pay good money to see this band live - when are they on tour?
Fantastic. Great to hear you singing too, a really good job.

Thanks a million for listening everyone, really appreciated as always.
Nigel... the drums are done in garageband... the full iMac Desktop version... so you get to see and edit individual beats, create your own fills very easily. It is a bit time consuming but I really enjoy this part. I used to do a bit of drumming when I was a kid which maybe helps, so I have a decent idea of how I want the fills and patterns to sound. But fiddling around a bit makes a fair difference I think, rather than just leaving a few simple loops there... well for rock music anyway.
Cheers
Mike
Love it, such an original sound. Really satisfying groove and the lyrics work so well. This is excellent, the chorus is superb - love that riff!
This is top notch stuff.
The production is amazing.
The music is outstanding and the cut up words have worked a treat.
Vocals are crystal clear as well.
Magic
This is really cool. My favorite cutup so far.
You may have struggled with the lyrics but they work amazing well for me and the chorus is killer.
The vocal and guitar are magic too really enjoyed the listen!
Love the music and there's some really nice guitar work. The random lyrics make sense to me with what's going on in the world these days.

Fine dark vibe, Mike! Agree with the Joy Division comparison. Top class job on each way...I'm on the second listening.
Fabulous recording !! reminds me of Bowie a little !! listening with cans on and it sounds brilliant , great work Mike S , loved it !!

Mike, this is brilliant, thanks for sharing, well done... Alex
bump because I love this...
and here is a quote from Tim Green that I agree with "I'd say it's a damn near perfect cut-up execution."
not that I would know but I think Tim does... I have done one of these and sort of another one... mine was nowhere as cohesive.
you took these lyrics and made it fit to so much truth .... but anything with annihilate or anesthesia I want to hear...
and as great as the puzzle of lyrics you put together are the music is even more splendid... along with your singing. and I really like all the instrumental parts... it is sort of like giving the listener time to cope with the facts it is being faced with....
