Well, I might as well start with something simple. Not that anything I do is complicated. This is a little R&R song called "Out All Night", that I put together a couple months ago. All mixing and mastering was done on the '900, with the exception of a dB or so boost in Audacity. I was going for a Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds kind of sound. Since few people (including me) remember them today, it probably doesn't matter. LOL!
That is really great Frank. Really tight, great sound all round. Welcome to the forum, lets have some more of your great songs.
Heard this one on indiemusicworks.com (you should check out his music there BB).
Really catchy tune well played and with lovely harmonies .. just gotta love it !!!
Wow! This makes me think of the 1980!
Even though i was not alive at that point :D
Great job! Nice tension!
Total freakout, man!! I feel the influences, but don't know where they come from. There are some Frank Black (Formerly of Pixies/Black Frances) tunes that remind me of this - very impressed and would love to hear more.
See you around,
Mark
Great job Frank!! First thing i hear is.....ALOT OF WORK! This song did not come together in a day or two i bet...you did some serious engineering here. The story is good..your vox are very well done...reminded me of John Mooney a bit. The back up vox are just outta this world..fantastic job there. Neat lead and really nice drums. Overall tight and well performed. What else is there? Good song!
i remember nick lowe and dave edmunds, mr lowe is still turning out great songs, this is like wow, the organ sound is so nick lowe, and like early elvis costello who nick produced.
i think it was launched that said it reminded him of frank black ( possibly my fave singer/songwriter) but i think francis musta listened to some nick in his time.
bloody geat song love it
Cool tune FranK! Great solo and way-cool keyboards!
Cool singing and backup vocals and harmonizing!
Frank! I just read your introduction and found this post. I too am a long-time drummer-turned-multi-instrumentalist -- good to have you here! Wow, is this ever a feel-good romp! Very early-80s, very Elvis Costello (esp. the organ), as ORH said. Not sure if I hear the Frank Black influence, but either way this is top-notch good-time rock & roll!
One thing that's a little odd to me -- aren't these programmed drums? If so, FANTASTIC job programming them, but why not just play them yourself? Perhaps they are electronic drums, played live by you. That would explain the sound. Good work on the drums, either way!
Nice work! :)
Thanks everyone, for the kind words. I was in a musical drought a few month ago, and decided to come up with a simple R&R tune to try to stimulate the muse, and this was the result. But I think the muse is back on vacation again. LOL!
Bosko, yes. I always play my own drums. I have a set of Roland V-drums, so I don't drive the neighbors (and my wife) crazy. ;D
Ah, that's what I thought. Sounded like a live player, but electronic drums. And that's what it was. Great playing, very tight and punchy!!
I have managed to not annoy the neighbors too much, so I use real drums in my posts in the BR-1600 room. Take a listen if you get a chance -- I'd love to hear what a fellow drummer-turned-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist thinks of my humble stuff!
Why'd you have to write this song, Frank? Do you have any idea how catchy it is? I've only heard it a couple of times, and yet it keeps popping into my head. For some reason, it reminds me of a They Might Be Giants song, "The Replacements."
You have any other originals ready to post?
ah frank i have heard you before, this is brilliant. hope you are posting more soon, or do you have a website with stuff on it. soundclick myspace. i wanna hear more.
Thank you for the kind comments on my songs, ORH! As a matter of fact we are Myspace friends. It's so hard to keep track of everyone on the 'net these days.
I have a few other things floating out there in cyberspace.

Maybe I'll post another one here soon, also. Didn't want to monopolize the board. I guess we need more '900 users. LOL!

i will need to bump you up to my first page then, i often do things under the influence of scottish beer and have no recall , could be early onset dementi but more likely lager dehydrating my brain.
This was really neat!! I liked it a lot the harmonies were great. Live drummers. This community could use some of you guys. I still don't have the drums down on the BR
Thanks, Wiley! I appreciate the listen and the kind words. I'm glad I can play drums a little, 'cause programming those things would drive me nuts (or more nuts, I should say). :P
Frank
Hey this is really top-notch stuff!
I loved it! What really got me is the keyboards...
but the entire thing is great.
Love the harmonies...

Mason? Edmunds? Frank(ly) I would rather hear 53! This is a catchy song. Glad to read this is you Frank playing an electronic kit. I have an acoustic kit now and love it, however I see really big advantages in some ways for the electronic kits. Having said that i ain't getting rid of my Tama's anytime soon.
I just want to say, and I know you don't get on SC much these days that I hear your songs once in a while and I really do enjoy your voice very much... it is warm and has a lot of comfort in it. You do some great songs... I don't get on many other sites as I find they are so big and so hard to keep up with folks but I might have to sneak on that link and hear a few others.
hope you are well!
