Title: I Give In - AndyR Original (Remastered)
Post by: AndyR on October 10, 2020, 10:33:31 AM
(Remastered 22/10/2021)

I found this one while I was digging through the shoe-box for the 1994 songs. Apparently I wrote it on 10th November 1995.

Foolishly, I thought it would only take a week or so to record... I was originally expecting to post it on the 17th August... I was even hoping to have completed another 3 or 4 offerings by now... (and I've got some cute ones lined up).

But I got a bit derailed by work, gardening, plumbing, lying on the sofa, general incompetence and ineptitude, that sort of thing.

I'm fairly certain I was thinking "Led Zeppelin" when I wrote this back in 1995. I believe I was intending a Bron-Y-Aur Stomp kinda thing. But in 2020 it seems to have turned into a bit of a country-swing, telecaster-fest type thang.

At least you can still hear the acoustic guitars I started with back in July.

Anyway, it now has the Mrs R seal of approval, so that's plenty good enough for me.

I Give In
Words & Music AndyR
Recorded on a BR1600
--------------------------------
There's some refinement in you
In the words that you choose
I just love to hear you talk
The syllables you use
Can I afford to expose my heart to you
I don't know
I give in

I feel a sense of wonder
When you hold me with your eyes
But I'm not sure of what you feel
I can't see through your disguise
Are you indifferent or do you hold me in contempt
I don't know
I give in

I fear my actions have shown me in bad light
I fear the hand that will gently put me right
Do my attentions really cause such pain
What do you think
I don't know
I give in

You drive a coach and horses
Through my defences every time
You leave me standing speechless
I face a mountain I must climb
Should I follow or do you want me to turn back
I don't know
I give in
I'm ashamed for the assurance that I lack
What do you think
What do you think
I don't know
I give in

Yes, Led Zep country-swing.  :D  Jimmy did play a tele on most of Zeppelin's recordings, so you've got it covered.
Very cool tune. The lyrics are great, and the music is spot-on. Excellent instrumental break, with the nice mix of guitars. Great vocal.

Oh yeah, great country thang with a Led Zep feel sure enough. Lovely guitar work and brilliantly recorded, Andy. Vocals are superb and I like the theme of the lyrics too.

I listened to some of your songs on alonetone this afternoon...  this sound is really solid...like the music reminds me a bit of the early Eagles and maybe a bit of the studio musicians that Olivia Newton John used on some of her early recordings that leaned toward a country rock sound... (that is real good imo).... interesting lyrics too....
yes you get the very best out of the BR....good on you sir!

Well done on the Led Zep influenced Tele swing Andy! You nailed it with this a excellent recording. Great words, vocal and you got a great tone out of the Tele.

Oh yes, this is Andy's number 1 hit! A great swing groove and a sure fire hit. Love the lyrics, I think they really drive this and the country-ish swing feel just creates a great platform for the lyrics. Beautifully arranged and played, some nice subtle playing going on so that the different parts complement each other really well. And as for that lovely section at 2:08, I really like the little downward runs and lead followed by the key change. Very cool.

Beautifully mixed and produced, an absolute belter. We should have the whole Songcrafters gang doing a Zoom line dance to this...... ;D
