This one hits hard.

I was a big fan of The Cars for their first two albums. I remember being electrified when I first heard 'Just What I Needed' (written by Ocasek, but sung by Ben Orr) on FM radio in 1978. Their sound was a breath of fresh air for FM radio in 1978 in the U.S. Their debut album and the follow-up 'Candy O' were chock full of great songs.

I just missed their 'debut' live performance at Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth, New Hampshire at the base movie theater back in December 1976 (our family had moved from Pease AFB to nearby Westover AFB in Chicopee, Massachusetts in July of 1975), but I did get to see them later in Maine at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland in 1982. Great show.

RIP Ric Ocasek - and thanks for the great songs.

This makes me sad, but it's good to know he was in the comfort of his home with family when his time came.
