There's no censorship in this forum, correct? I just want to make sure I can cuss like a sailor when applicable/necessary and not get booted out of here.
You feel like venting Bosco? I don't think there is much in the way of censorship in terms of the odd swear word. The big no-no here is personal, nasty attacks against another member, that's not nice, but just getting excited or whatever and expressing yourself with the odd juicy word, let fly.
No, I don't do personal attacks; we'll leave that to Fox News. I was just making sure because I don't want to get booted. You see, I really like this fucking place! ;D
I think this place does very well to show sensible restraint with swearing and explicit content - i.e. it's there, but it's not used gratuitously, which is just the way it should be.
The only thing I'd be aware of though is that we do have some younger members on here. But I'm sure you'll be told (gently) if you overstep the mark!

Well as far as I'm concerned I'm the youngest member, and i can take a bit of swearing :) I even do it myself sometimes.
But yeah, as long as your not talking like the folks at youtube, everything should solve it self :D
None of my posts have ever been ********.
Well, I know you can handle it, 0jimi0! You're doing an album called "The Sensual Horse Fucker," for Christ's sake!
Had I seen that post before this, I wouldn't have even asked about censorship. I don't think I'll have any problems.

:D :D :D :D :D
Just don't fucking swear though.
As a young punk (late 70's) we (the band I was playing in) had a song called 'Please don't swear', which we stole from some bunch of toffee nosed public school boys band (if it was you, or anyone else on here, I apologise for the theft, the use and the subsequent claim to the authoring and composition of the song), and played in the pubs and clubs of North Eastern England. (Our World tour started at Northallerton and ended in Billingham).
It was there to shock as most early Punk was, the last line being 'Please don't Fucking swear' which everybody except our parents loved.
It's lost it's impact, sadly, as much of the English language has. Things are 'Awesome', 'Horrifying', 'Outrageous', 'Amazing' without being more than mildly interesting, mildly odd or simply dull. So it is with swearing. I don't like using the 'C' word particularly, unless I'm pissed and talking to ORH.

Yeah but mostly in spoken language; it's a waterfall of meaningless babble it's like y'know...
However the written word is a different means of communication; it comes across much harsher, and may convey an image of yourself that is not really true.
Flash, I love the irony of the final line of the song being, "Please don't fucking swear." You're right, though, sadly, the impact of this type of humor is now all but lost. You're also correct in that it's not just swear words, but words that are supposed to make huge, impactful statements, such as those you listed, that now mean next to nothing. How do we describe something as being truly "awesome" or "brilliant" when these words are heard 300 times a day?
Each generation gets a little less formal, a little less professional, a little more slacker. The human race is truly devolving, at least in terms of social etiquette.
SdC, you also have a point, though, in that the written word may still contain a sense of what the original words were truly meant to convey. Then again, it just depends on who is using the words and in what manner.
I think a special thread on "letting it rip" would be kind of fun...like this one...
But I don't think I'd want to see this sort of thing on every thread....and Greeny is right - there's other young ones that listen and read our comments (some of our kids that are quite accomplished musicians already I might add).
My 2 cents...

My difficulty is that the impact words make has been diminished. I have heard some very talented people on this forum produce some extremely well crafted and well played songs, and some that are not so but have a spark of genius about them. But I'm left crippled by the wanton overuse of our language. I can't say that a piece is brilliant because the concept of brilliance is no longer understood.
I run out of superlatives, so to emphasise the point, one is trapped into false emphasis - " that is fucking brilliant" which could mean anything from it's good to it's very funny or any other colloquialism depending on the locale / culture / age and any other distinction that one cares to make.
So I struggle on with a blunt set of chisels. Written words have to be read, and re-read.
However Bosko, this site is the dogs bollocks and some of the finest musicians I have ever had the pleasure to socialise and work with are here, and yes, I really like this fucking place too.
Lol!
I've not seen this remix! Magical!
SdC, as much as I hate to do so, I agree that we should at least limit our cursing on this forum, but only because there are young ones here. And that is simply because I have a 3-year-old myself and I don't go spouting off like George Carlin around him. And that kind of goes back to the old school way of showing respect when there are "women and children" present, which of course, is a ridiculous premise, at least regarding women, as it almost implies that they are too "fragile" to be able to handle a curse word. Which we all know is bullshit. I have been around women that cuss like Samuel L. Jackson on a snake-ridden plane. So I am torn when it comes to swear words, as I am of the opinion of the afore-mentioned Carlin that words are just words and to say that any one 4-letter word is "bad" is utterly ridiculous. Words aren't bad. They are inanimate. They are abstract. Some have infinite meanings. So there is no word alone that could ever offend me. It's all about context for me personally. The word "fuck" doesn't offend me, but if you call me a fucking cocksucker and you aren't joking around, I of course will be pissed. As for this forum and everyday life, I am old school in that I try to feel out my surroundings before spouting off curse words. Like it or not, this is our society, and there are still some rules and boundaries. I guess we just can't have it both ways.
Flash, I completely agree that the meaning of many words is now washed out and diminished. Regarding your struggle with the English lanuage, I saw that you said my latest mix of "If I Walked ..." was "fucking ace." I guess that could mean "fairly mediocre," "pretty good," "completely awesome," or even "pretty shitty." I am going to massage my ego and take it that you meant "completely awesome." ;D

Bingo! and Bingo! :D
Well, then, THANK YOU, kind sir! :)

Very often I find that when I say something is 'nice', people get really upset. It has an effect. I use it a lot. It's a nice word.
QuoteI don't like using the 'C' word particularly, unless I'm pissed and talking to ORH.
this is a word i dont use very much unless i'm pissed and talking to flash harry but it's still a pretty powerful word imho, i have used it in one song to great effect but i would never consider posting it here or anywhere actually it's just too offensive deliberatley so, maybe some time when i am completely fucking rat arsed on the gabby water i might.
And by the "C" word, I assume you mean Conservative Republican? ;D
QuoteAnd by the "C" word, I assume you mean Conservative Republican?
wash your mouth out with soap young man lmao. actually, i doesn't look too far off that the conservatives over here will get in to power. i just hope people remember what it was like last time they held power, i cannot understand why david cameron is so popular or why he gets such an easy time from the supposedly impartial british media.
Excuse me, sir, but you don't have much to complain about. Imagine living with George W. Bush in power for 8 embarrassing, disastrous, and agonizingly long years. I would have traded leaders with almost anyone in the world during that time.
And before people start freaking out, I said almost.
Don't forget the UK doesn't get to vote for the president, but we have to live with him. Bush affected more lives here than any other politician has done in recent times.
Politics? Don't get me started on that again... ! :D :D :D
QuotePolitics? Don't get me started on that again... !
lmfao . i'm goona have a look on youtube for bill hick's "have you ever tried to suck your own dick routine"
Flash, oddly enough, I kind of feel the same way you do -- I have to live with whoever's voted in, but I get very little say. You see, I live in Texas, in which I am the vast minority, being a liberal democrat. Our state votes "red" (conservative republican) no matter what I do. So I have to live DIRECTLY with the president, and although I do get a vote, mine doesn't really count. At least you are a few thousand miles and one ocean removed from the absurdity.
I am a huge Barack Obama supporter, so I am happy for now.
ORH, Bill Hicks is The Man!

Was warned about that in a pub toilet once......... :)
Just seen the new post.......Lol
Remind me not to venture into public lavatories with you!
This is what I love about forums. We started with a simple question about censorship, then moved on to the English language, social commentary, politics, a Ghostbusters reference, and finally, pissing on each other in public restrooms.

I honestly believe that the most offensive word you could use on this Forum in relation to another Member, would be: 'Talentless'. :o :'(
