Post by: Oldrottenhead on October 02, 2017, 02:06:20 PM
Thought this was fake news as his death has been misreported numerous times recently. R.I.P. Tom. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/tom-petty-legendary-rocker-is-dead-at-66/

Ahh no. What a shock... I really like his work, and more so in recent years. A big loss.

R.I.P. Tom

I guess no official report yet, but his SiriusXM channel has been taking callers all day and acting as though the news is true.

Sad day in the music world, glad I got to see him recently.

RIP, Tom.

Awful news.

I've spent a lot of time with his music over the years, and I really liked him as an artist and (from what I saw) as a person.

I also read his autobiography a few years ago - can heartily recommend it.

He's gone too soon, but he didn't do bad, did he: not many people play with the likes of George Harrison, Bob Dylan, The Big 'O', Jeff Lynne, and Stevie Nicks.

'Last Dance with Mary Jane' remains a special favourite of mine.

Rest easy, and thanks for the great music.

Real shocker this one, not great how the media were reporting his death prematurely either, a couple of early rumours of his death had spread about like wildfire.

Agree with Greeny, Last Dance with Mary Jane is probably my favourite too!

RIP Tom Petty!

How about a Tom Petty mini-fest to pay tribute?

Any Tom Petty covers posted between now and Tuesday, October 17th, 2017 will qualify. However, I think we need at least four songs to make it worthwhile. Hopefully, we'll get more than that. When I see that at least four Tom Petty covers have been posted, I'll make a jukebox and add them to it, as well as any other Tom Petty covers posted before the 17th.

So start working on your Tom Petty covers and let's make a great Songcrafters tribute to Tom Petty.

Love this idea...
And I like to think Tom Petty would love this idea, too.

I've been listening to Highway Companion a lot lately.

As big as Tom Petty got (and believe me, he deserved it!) I don't think he was ever quite as big as he should have been.

This guy is up there with the all time greats.  His voice, his songwriting.  Just unsurpassed.

Ankle Deep in Love

Yeah they raised that horse to be a jumper
He was owned by a Midwest bible thumper
His preacher was a Louisiana drummer
Took all winter to get through the summer
The field hand hit the switch and stumbled
Outside the big engine roared and rumbled
The stolen horse spooked and tumbled
She didn't speak for a week, just kinda mumbled
Ankle deep
In love
Ankle deep
In love
He was caught up
In a lie he half believed
Found her hiding
High in the family tree
Washed his hands
And put her 'cross his knee
She said "Daddy, you've been a mother to me"
Ankle deep
In love
Ankle deep
In love
