Fran , my wife was going to see our daughter in Dundee, our daughter is going to Turkey in the morning, and Fran had some money for the children, she had been gone about half hour when I got a phone call from her,she had just put £20 of petrol in our diesel car,I told her not to start it,I could have had it taken to a garage but it couldn't be looked at until tomorrow, the garage gave her a card for a company that comes out to sort it,she had to do it, as all the money had been changed into Turkish currency, after 2hours the guy came out, pushed the car back and drained it,that was £192 but the tank was now empty so another £40 to put diesel in.
So at the end of the day,the £20 of diesel she should have put in cost me £252
I will have to go out busking....
Alex.
OUCH!!! That happened to me on the way back from a gig once. 1 o'clock in the morning in pre mobile-phone days. The roadie who was driving did the same trick... petrol in a diesel van. Managed to find a phone box that was working & called for help. We sacked the roadie >:(

Blimey - that is an expensive mistake. Oh well, one of life's little curved balls, and something easily done!
