ProtestSongs (banner image missing)

Just done a 50 hour shift with little or no internet availability, hence my absence recently, lots of catching up to do. anyway a wee protest song for the past fest, a wee secular protest song, religion in politics makes my blood boil  ;D ;D ;D ;D

anyway whilst away i had my ipad and on my breaks i did the music for this in garageband, i was even able to record a guide vocal track using the mic on my earbud headphones mic. quality wasn't useable but helped me remember the words and melody.

spent a lot of time tinkering away on the music and think i am starting to find my way round garageband.

i transferred the music from garageband to a stereo track on my br800, then using my micro br as a mic, i recorded a doubletracked lead vocal one high one low an octave apart then added another backing vocal at the fade out.

anyway it is what it is.

We can watch the sun as it rises in the sky
so beautiful and wondrous to see
we can catch the fruit as it falls down from the tree
you say grace before you eat
you say grace

you might believe that there's a god up in the sky
and he's gonna save your soul when you die
you can believe anything you want
but don't impose your beliefs on me

we can count the stars as they shimmer in the night
we can look into infinity
you can see a plan I just feel so small
but glad that chance has placed me here today
you say grace

you might believe that there's a god up in the sky
and he's gonna save your soul when you die
you can believe anything you want
but don't impose your beliefs on me

they say the pen is mightier than the sword
maybe that's why they keep changing all the words
the less we know the less we control

don't impose your beliefs on me

Is the GarageBand thing recent? Were you mastering in in iy for a while?

Great tune. I immediately grabbed my acoustic and started noodling over it. Killer vocals as per your usual.

Very cool track, quite lush in its production. I dig.

Oh boy, I have a feeling this is going to be a tough one to live down.

I was hoping it was orwellian newspeak.

You dare reference the Ministry of Truth when I currently reside in America!? Oopsie, this borders on the political.  I'm out of here...

Great bit of work Jim. This has a bit of a Waterboys about it. Love it.

Big up on the technical side... so well produced.

Separation of church and state, basis of the american experiment.  Can it withhold?  Hope so.

Good song, I like the 8th note percussion at the beginning, good mix of well played instruments
and your excellent vocals all through.

Wow, Jim

This is fantastic.

What a great creation. I agree with you as well.

I hope you don't mind a comparison, but this sounds like a lost REM song - from the ground up. I love REM.

"I'm going to heaven Lieutenant Dan" Sorry I couldn't resist :D

Garage Band is pretty cool, a little beyond my trogodiggydite style but it does sound great. You wrote a solid tune with it!

Listening on my laptop speakers, it has a weird and wonderful slow rhythm behind the fast one -- like calm rhythmic breathing against a strong heartbeat. How do you do that?
