Title: Amp simulator software
Post by: Scorpios on March 07, 2008, 02:24:38 PM
I have been checking out amp simulator plug-ins for a few years now, and curious to know who here has tried any out and opinions, etc.

I was pretty impressed with Guitar Rig by Native Intruments since it came out, the latest Version is really good, I tried GTR 3 and thought it was utter crap.

I just started to check out the new version of Amplitube though and 3 hours later my shoulder is starting to want a break from my guitar, but it's pretty impressive software I must say.

Amplitube is pretty good-i haven't used mine in a long time tho
I've got revalver with sonar a few upgrades ago-not terribly impressed
The Line6 Gearbox, i think its called, is intriguing, and cheap too-inever used it, but have heard good things about it. It's based on the POD models I believe.-Been tempted myself

There are some standalone programs here (http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/GUITAR/).
And here (http://www.kvraudio.com/get.php?mode=results&st=adv&soft=e&type%5B%5D=65&f=0&fe=0&linux=1&osx=1&win=1&free=1&com=1&un=1&sf=0&receptor=&de=0&sort=1&rpp=15) is a list of mostly free VST plugins that simulate amps or do other cool stuff.

IK multimedia-sells a usb to guitar interface for $99-includes amplitube live and T-racks and a bunch of other stuff-i doubt that the amplitube included is a vst plugin tho-not sure

Yeah I have seen the stealth plug before, my only complaint about it is the fixed/attached guitar cable, it would have made some much more sense to just have a 1/4" input jack you could hook up any instrument cable to... personally instrument cables have a short life span when I use them and always getting shorts.

I will have to check the links Admin put up, the Native Instruments Guitar Rig is pretty good, I think it about equals the latest Version of Amplitube, but seems to devour CPU more so than Amplitube.

Yeah, exactly...my experience with Behringer products I have tried out seems to show they can do the same things other brands do for a much better price, I hadn't seen this particular product before but I think I will pick one up, I am wondering if it will work without any flaws on a PC with a standard motherboard soundcard or if it will have latency issues?Either way, I only have 2 analog ins and 2 digital ins on my recording PC's sound card so this would be an easy way to add one more input.

I am getting ready to try the Ampeg Bass sim software by Amplitube as well, after reading up on it, I am hoping it will sound as good as it seems.

I've been using Line 6 Guitarport/Gearbox for quite a while, and I'm very happy with the results.
