I saw him once in Belfast in 89' I think it was (blimey I'm getting old!), toward the end of his rock phase and he blew everyone away. His extended solos were jaw dropping. Beautiful player. Although I liked his blues stuff I think he was at his finest when playing the rock / ballad stuff (not the all out rock stuff). But yeah, what a player, devastated when he died :(

Great find Johnny.
I first heard Gary in the band Colloseum II, the album Electric Savage is one of the first albums I ever bought. Note that is the band that did Variations, with Julian Lloyd Webber, which is the music for the southbank show.  Electric Savage  was on cassette - and I still think its in the loft. Followed him ever since, but never got to see him live. A jaw droping good guitarist, and yeah, you watch him play and feel ever so slightly depressed!

For those of you who have ever watched the Southbank show :-) .....

I love his lower gain stuff. That 335 sounded so nice. What a loss.
