I've been annually whining and writing songs about how un-winter like my Winters are for years now. Finally, something is being done to remedy that (perhaps forever) Longing for cold and snow.
My children know not of what intense chill lies before them!
I go armed with ukulele (as does my daughter Pan) and br80 so should we be so inspired by winter...perhaps a post.
Unfortunately there are some sad undertones to this trip. It's time for me to take my parents ashes and lay them to rest where they belong. I do hope it's more of a celebration...
Now that I've brought the group down...
Happy New Year my friends!
Rock on!
Happy new year Hook hope the trip isn't too sad and the inspiration flows

My thoughts as well! Happy New Year!
I hope it all goes well, my thoughts are with you and yours.
Made it and it's cold!
Where exactly are you?
Minneapolis, Minnesota. My mom & dad were raised here and my mom's family runs a snow plow company and has for about 50 or 60 years now. I spent some summer's here as a kid but never a winter.
Ice on on the ground and a seriously chilli wind. So far so good.
Rock on!
Ah grumpy old man country.
Hope you enjoy yourself Hook,
Have a great time and a Happy New year to you and your family....

It's suppose to get down in the 30's tonight here in Florida. But you know how that goes down here...a couple of chilly days then back to tropical weather. Minnesota, now that is cold stuff for a native Floridian like me.
Hope all goes well with the ceremony/memorial and Happy New Year!

More stoic than grumpy.
Taking the kids sledding today. I grew up in VA so I'm not unfamiliar with cold & snow but my kids are Floridians to the core. We will see how long they can stand it this morning. 19 degrees outside today.
Sled on!
Have a great time Hook and my thoughts are also with you on your family on this day too.
It's a poignant time Hook. Stoicism is what you need. A closing of a chapter in your book.
I revisit the site where my parents ashes are scattered from time to time, it's just off the track of a favourite walk, I visit their memory far more often.
Stoically.
I hope the kids enjoy the white slippy stuff. I hope you find a suitable fitting spot for your parents.
Sled on!
Stay strong brother, and enjoy the time with your family.

Snow tubing yesterday and skiing today. We are rocking this winter thing! My kids should get to see thier 1st real snow storm on Monday, calling for 3-4 inches. Spent some time with family I haven't seen in almost 20 years...good time so far.

My parents actually bought a grave plot in Minneapolis many years ago. When my Dad passed it was just too much for my mom to fulfill my dad's wishes, so now with her passing I can complete his plans.
Service is on Tuesday, I would imagine that will be hard but so far it's been really wonderful just to be here where they grew up, met & got married.
And seeing my kids skiing (pretty well for FL kids) has just made my day. I did pretty well myself until the last wipe out, flipping, rolling, Skis over my head, skis ripped of my feet and slid down the rest of the way bareback on the snow....it was cool.
Rock on!
Sorry you are going through this, but it seems like you are creating some quite positive memories through this trip as well. I applaud you for that and your kiddos.
Miss you, brother.

Hope your sledding was good, I made it to Middletown NY tonight. We're going to get up reasonably early to finish the drive home. Glad I got a car for the ride back though, hate flying.
Frickin' cold up here...
Today 16 degrees. Had service, did good, got drunk, celebrated.
Rock on!
Well you get to go back to warm weather soon - I did not want to go home I tell ya! As Bloody says, up here it's cold... so cold...
It's -20 C (-4F) in this morning here. Time to melt freezer!
Been back in Florida 2 days, nice to be home. Tonight it's suppose to get down to 34°F , low 60s mid day...winter! Hopefully we will make Minnesota a destination for us during the winter. It was great to reconnect with family and get to do all the winter activities.
Now I'm thinking about Finland...2017s gonna be good!
Rock on friends!
