Title: "Contradictions & Crooked Lines" a Hook original (omnichord improv video)
Post by: Hook on July 25, 2016, 12:48:31 PM
It's something I've wanted for quite a while. This summertime GAS has run it's course I hope.
Contradictions & Crooked Lines
written & performed by Hook

I believe in everything
at least I really want to

But contradictions & crooked lines
make this path so hard to find

& I doubt my own beliefs
& my ability to believe

Great song, Hook. You are a natural music maker!

I'm kind of fascinated by the sound and playing mechanics of the Omnichord (thanks for the video!). The strum plate plays different notes depending on which button you hold down? And the held down button also plays an organ-type chord while held down?

And here comes the G.A.S. :) I know there was more than one model made, but how much did yours cost?

I got mine for $175, a bit more than I wanted to spend but less than I could get it on ebay. People ask usually $225-500, the add asked for $400 and I offered $150. She countered at $175 and I figured I needed it.

I think I want one (especially if I can get one at a bargain price).

Resistance (to G.A.S.) is futile...  :D

The new ones are called Qchords. Just found this one used through guitar center and am kicking myself a little. I'd jump on it.http://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Suzuki/QChord-Portable-Keyboard.gc?country=us&currency=usd&source=4WWMWXGP&gclid=CJjXl_i4j84CFYpahgodQGcPnQ&kwid=productads-adid^78244844802-device^m-plaid^144146034522-sku^111956421@ADL4GC-adType^PLA (http://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Suzuki/QChord-Portable-Keyboard.gc?country=us&currency=usd&source=4WWMWXGP&gclid=CJjXl_i4j84CFYpahgodQGcPnQ&kwid=productads-adid%5E78244844802-device%5Em-plaid%5E144146034522-sku%5E111956421@ADL4GC-adType%5EPLA)

Watched this via iphone in the yesterday evening. I suppose you didn't practice much with omnichord, but wrote and performed a song immediately after you purchased that instrument! Nice job! Omnichord on!

ps. You're so real, bro!

I have eyed them on and off for a couple years. I don't think I could exploit one as well as you can, so I think my GAS is under control. I think it's uncanny (and a tad annoying) that you make music out of anything you manage to pick up.

Very cool.

Pretty cool instrument and well-played. I see that you have the 200M. According to the website, the M stands for MIDI and the 200M was the first Omnichord to include a MIDI Out. I think it would make a great MIDI controller since it's got that strum plate which isn't usually found on MIDI controllers. Other models that have MIDI Out are the OM250M (http://www.suzukimusic.co.uk/omnichord-heaven/models/om150-250m.html), OM300 (http://www.suzukimusic.co.uk/omnichord-heaven/models/om300.html), and the Qchord (http://www.suzukimusic.co.uk/omnichord-heaven/models/qc1.html) (the latter has MIDI Out and MIDI In).

Qchord website:

You can get a new Qchord at Staples for $220.29.
