Title: Allan Holdsworth
Post by: bruno on April 09, 2016, 01:58:47 AM
A great british player - probably more influential that most would think ....
I always loved the band U.K. (and still do) - but then, I'm a sucker for John Wetton's vocals :-)

Have always been a big fan, but usually must take him in small doses. I remember I saw him and Ronnie Montrose on a double bill, and the onslaught of Holdsworth's playing made Montrose's (mostly) pentatonic playing like a breath of fresh air. Always loved "In the Dead of Night" off that UK album. My favorites of his were the three acoustic tunes on the lp version of Velvet Darkness (The CD has different takes for some reason) and some of the vocal tunes off IOU and Metal Fatigue. He lost me a bit when he went toward the Synthaxe.

Peace.

I only have Metal fatigue, but I have it on both vinyl and CD :) I actually listen to it quite often and have it on my  πPhone. Listened to it last week actually. The solos on both the title track and on "Delvil take the hindmost" are some of my all time favourite guitar-solos.
