Title: This is a song (the closest I've come to country)

Under2Fest (banner image missing)

Hey

This is a song about ... well you'll see if you listen 8)

I've got a cabin out by the sea, I have some home-improvement projects going on there and man am I glad I have the MBR. This song was made after a long day taking down the old walls in the toilet .....

Guitar and vocal was recorded that night and I just put on a bass when I got home.

Not my normal style (whatever that is) but it was fun doing it.  ;D

Its got style thats for sure.  Sounds like quite the time you had out there by the sea.  For some reason the lyrics make me think of Neil Young, I am not sure why exactly.  That is some crazy acoustic playing.  Good stuff.

this is a song that starts in Greece, and ends in Russia.
this is a song that is sung so well.
this is a song that is played so sweet.
this is a song that is so adictive.
this is a song that is going on my ipod.
this is a song that is just fantastic.
this is me saying "great post"

This is a song that was fun to listen too... Hope your home improvement project is comming along well. Do you have any pics of the view???... Sounds nice to live along the sea. I go camping every year on the Cook Inlet where (Mt. Redoubt) is errupting right now... the view is breath taking...Very inspiring.

You may not think it is your style but it was wonderful.  We have a cabin by the lake.  But I bet the sea view would be magnificent.

This sounds like 'Jolene' played with Balalaikas. Kind of a country-Eastern folk hybrid. But I love the way it rattles along. It's a great listen - really enjoyed it!!! Great work.

Wow man, I'm totally impressed! Sounds so good~Such a complete production for a tiny little recorder.  I can't say enough about how much I really appreciate this song man! If it reminded me of anything~it would be "Johhny Cash~ Ghostwritters in the Sky".  Great Job....very inspiring too 8) 8)

Absolutely Fabulous!

I love it (and Tony's comments). You are unlikely to hear this in a commercial arena, which is a shame because this has enhanced my life. It is the most enchanting thing I have heard for such a long time.

PiePod material.

Oh and apart from being inspired and fantastic, the playing, recording and the production are impeccable.

Once again people : Thank you !! This was great fun. ;D And thinking, this the result of being able to record an idea for a song, when you get it, wherever you are... with a recording studio you can put in your pocket, that's dirt cheep but gives quality recordings... and THEN : having this forum that' so encouraging and so fun !!!

I don't really know what "special vat" is but I sure have appreciated your comments Tony (and H ??)

I'll attach a view from my cabin in my next post Wiley

Thanx Kody, I can see what you mean though I wouldn't dare compare myself to the man in black.

Tim:   I think I'l buy myself a Balalaika 8) 8) 8)

Anyone playing the banjo here???

I can only agree with the others - this is just great and really different. You handled the vocals really well and I love the balalaika-esque guitar. Please keep posting more stuff. You are so right about the MBR and how you can capture inspiration so quickly but with quality. Although you've got to know what you are doing, and you clearly do.

Cheers,

Nigel

I know you have alot of complimenst on this song, but what a'heck, one more will not hurt!  It is so cool the way you did it!  Guitar sounds almost mandolini/banjini - the sounds you're getting are awesome.  The lyrics definetly fit the ambience!  I need to push myself to write words to my songs!  Great post - I see was back in March!!!

That's funny, Dave! My mom was from Boothbay Harbor and a few of her cousins were fishermen/lobstermen.

Maine is built on four economic sections: Farming, Fishing, Forestry and Tourism. I grew up in the forestry world - I used to run a logging and trucking outfit (Family Business) until about 3 years ago. Maybe that's why I'm so rough around the edges!!

So this one is dedicated to all the 28 different people (Helen included ;) + Kody's dad and Jim's wife and kids) that have brightened my days by listening to this.

Did you get the home improvements done on your cabin done yet?
Title: Re: This is a song ("live"@home)
Post by: Geir on June 07, 2010, 09:37:43 AM
This is the last of the three songs I played live on Saturday. Same deal as with the others, due to my blunder it didn't get recorded so this is recorded live at home the next day. Performed the same way as I did live, using My korg D16 as a mixer for the plugged-in acoustic and the dynamic mic, adding some reverb too get the recording as close to the Saturday performance as possible.

As this is the first time I've played this song live and I had to do it solo, I was struggling a bit on how to arrange it. I stuck with the basic guitar riff/strumming and tried my best to make as much noise as possible during the solo. I think it worked ok, but I do need to practice to get it tighter. And next time I will want to have a mic in addition to plugging it in to get more of the acoustic sound.

Thanks for listening !

Hot damn Geir, so great to hear this "live" version, although I suspect most of your songs are "live" like this recorded in your house or cabin.  You are a natural musican/singer/songwriter.  You ever do any St. Thomas, I would love to hear you do a cover of St.Thomas someday.  Sounds like you were the big star at that party, all the ladies calling your name, men slipping cigars and money in your pocket, take your bow Geir, well deserved.

I usually make a live guiding track that for some songs stays in the final mix. This song was made pretty much as the live version sounds like.

I can't believe that I have not commented on this before as it is one of my favourite Geir songs. It may be a country (ish) song but I love it from all directions, musically, playing and vocally.

I have not commented on this one for a page or so. If I left a comment every time I listened to it, you'd be up to 600 replies.

Definitely! And date sequence currently puts it right next to my "Doctor Who" in the playlist, so I'm in good company. Howdy neighbour! ;)

A very catchy toon indeed. Foot-tapping amundo.
If anyone remembers the Euro-Pop-Group 'Sailor',
well Geir's style and delivery on this song has a similar ring.
Well done, Geir, a very enjoyable upload.  8)

Because of its awesomeness... this thread made me think... Maybe it's time to create another category... a Songcrafter "Hall of Fame".... This song definately fits that category and so does the guy that created it. I know we do the SC Classic Pics... but it would sure be nice to be able to go to a link that automatically populates those songs on here that either "Gets the most views"... "Gets the most votes" or Both.... Just a thought!!!

Seven years, so much have happened. Great song brother, even though it's far from what I usually listen to. Maybe tis is a song we should do together in a different way. Not that it is anything wrong with this version, but a great song can be done in many ways.
