Title: "The synths of our fathers" a Geir original
Post by: Geir on July 07, 2014, 02:03:09 AM
Don't have much time to record these days, but managed to squeeze in a few minutes now and then the last week. I may have gotten a bit carried away with all the new synths I've got :D Words written and recorded in the car yesterday.

(all synths/organ are iPad apps played with my M-AUDIO Keystation Mini 32)

The synths of our fathers
a) Waterworks at the beach
b) Asleep in a dream
c) The bickering of the robot queens

w/m: © 2014, Geir

Synths (ab)used: Thor ("choir") & Magellan
Organ: Galileo
Guitar: MiM Tele.
Bass: Ibanez GSR200
BR-80 for recording, mixing, mastering and drums
I walk out into an open space
I listen to the sounds
Of trees all around me
Of the rain that's falling down

I can hear the grass is growing
I can feel the the distant moose
I can spin around for hours
And still find my way home

There's a lake in a forrest
Where the fish are jumping high
There's a bunny in my garden
Eating mushroom pie

I fall asleep in a dream
And wake up far away
With the image of a river
Like a snake that bites it's tail.

And every little heartbeat
Every step I take
Brings me closer to the corner
Closer to the edge

But the monkey on my shoulder
Should be let Into the wild
I will dive down to a cave
And sleep another night

loving that intro very reminiscent of olias of sunhillow  at times.

but it's all you geir, the best of prog and rock and pop.

and it's got monkeys in it too, and a crazy fade out.

what more could a music lover want?

Wow!! The intro reminiscent of Philip Glass's music, but then it turns to totally different...to very catchy pop song. Stunning melodies with brilliant tones! The outro was a bit experimental! Fantastic job, Geir!!

Synthaliciously progtastic! This just hits you in the face right from the start (it left a little mark but I'm ok) and just makes me a glutton for a beating! You are such a versatile musician and writer it's always a joy to hear what you've created! Fan...I think I am!
Rock On!

Wow, there's a reference I haven't heard in a looonnngg time.  I'm going to break that out later today.

Another great post, Geir.  Some great sounds in there as well.

I have been toying with getting a small keyboard for the iPad.  Was there any learning curve getting them to work together?

Progtastic! Very well-wrangled set of synths, Geir. And loved when the guitars and then the vocals kick in.

And what an outro - sounds like some spoken alien language!

Its stuff like this, finding something like this that keeps me glued to this site..........wicked stuff Geir.

Funny you should say that, I havent listened to "Einstein on the beach" for quite a while, but I guess it has influenced my approach to electronic music in some ways :D

There's hardly any learning curve at all. Just plug it in (using an usb-cable and the camera connection kit) and it works.
It is a very simple keyboard tho!

Most of the apps recognises the keyboard immediately, tho sometimes you have to go into the setup of the app and select the device. Mine shows up as "Keystation Mini 32" so it isn't hard to choose ;D Many of the apps also have a "MIDI learn" function so you easily can assign whatever knobs you have on your keyboard to the functions available in the app. I think I'll need to get a more advanced keyboard at some time, but for not it works fine for me with this simple little one that goes in my backpack together with the ipad and BR80.

That is one of the most priceless pictures ever.  I won't sleep for a week, though.

Any chance of posting just the simian image, 64?  It needs to be an avatar.

Damnit! I can't listen to the whole thing because I'm on my phone but what I heard is freaking outrageously amazing. Love your playing and synth sounds Geir. Going to give it a whirl again tonight when I get home with my laptop and hear properly!

That picture should be a violation of Internet posting with the punishment of a fine and jail time! :)

By the way I don't know if anybody has mentioned it before but how about a monkey fest?
