Title: 'Broken Too' - A Greeny Monday Original
Post by: Greeny on June 23, 2014, 03:11:24 AM
Tanglewood acoustic, Hofner Verythin, Fender Precision, and a random drum loop from somewhere. Plus my Danelectro doing the trem-wobbly solo. All recorded and mixed on the MBR.

rise above the poisoned ground
the toxic words that get you down
and watch their machinations fall

leave them to their bitter lives
and the way they justify their lies
kick them into touch and have a ball

'cause it looks like looks like
you're broken in two
but it's alright alright 'cause i'm broken too

all our skills won't pay the bills
but at least we know how passion feels
darling let me light your fire

leave them to their bitter lives
and the way they justify their lies
kick them into touch and take me higher

'cause it looks like looks like
you're broken in two
but it's alright alright 'cause i'm broken too

let the new day sweep the shadows away
the footprints of the ogre washed away by the rain

'cause it looks like looks like
you're broken in two
but it's alright alright 'cause i'm broken too

All mixed on the mbr wow. Goes to show what can be done if you know what all the buttons do ;)
Great hook in the chorus most impressive. I like the blend of sounds from the different guitars giving the song added dynamics.

Loved it!

Got a Seventies power-pop vibe from this…and that chorus is a real belter. And the lead guitar  grabs and holds on. Going to spin it for another listen. Fine, fine stuff, Tim.

Another absolute gem, gets your attention from the outset and holds it until the end with an array of wonderful hooks.

I was particularly struck on the second refrain in the choruses where the additional vocal comes in and sings a very slightly different melody from the main vocal...really clever stuff!

The drums sound really big and authentic, it's almost as if they were created especially for this song!

Your songwriting continues to go from strength to strength....scary!!

I appreciate your work on the lyrics. And along with the music something very comforting gets across which goes to the message of not being completely alone when you feel down and broken.

Sheet man, just when I thought you couldn't put up a song that would grab me harder than your other songs.....and then BAM......here it is..... the lyrics........the chords....... the bass....... the guitar.......... the vocal melody......... the harmonies........ the bridge.............the guitar twanging away in my right ear................the beautiful, tight, loose solo that tastes just right, the damn meandering, circular bass that just goes and goes and never lets go of my brain, even after the song is over I still hear that bass rattling around my brain................what a flipping song man, what a song.  I need another dose right now.................

Are all of your bass lines that good? Not overly complex or flashy in the least. Just a solid piece of hard candy. Then the vox on top of it is catchy as hell with a good performance. I think I hear a trace of grit in there that Isn't always there.  Not harsh or whiskey blues gravel, just a bit of road weary, alive emotion in there. Sounds damn good, brother. Damn good in a nice relaxed groove.

Reading through that lyric, man the vocal performance fits it to a tee.
