Title: Connecting A-49 midi keyboard to SD-50 (Mobile Sound Canvas) sound module
Post by: Wilbury on April 27, 2013, 09:28:21 AM
Dear friends,

I consider buying two Roland products to work in pair - an A-49 midi keyboard and an SD-50 sound module (the latter is also known as Mobile Sound Canvas). The idea behind that is to have a latency-free instrument that can be used both with and without PC (in fact, primarily without).

However, as it appears from respective manuals, the keyboard is powered via USB cable only, whereas the sound module is designed to be paired with keys via the conventional five-pin midi interface only.

Does that mean that the two Roland devices of more or less the same generation cannot be used together without a computer?

Just in case, here are links to both products at Roland's global site:

http://www.roland.com/products/en/SD-50/

Thanks for your suggestions.

you can see the keyboard has a 5-pin DIN midi out.

All you need is a something like this USB wall adapter http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?seq=1&format=2&p_id=10273&CAWELAID=1819451970&catargetid=320013720000011323&cagpspn=pla&gclid=CIfD4cyt67YCFSdgMgodlEwAxQ (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?seq=1&format=2&p_id=10273&CAWELAID=1819451970&catargetid=320013720000011323&cagpspn=pla&gclid=CIfD4cyt67YCFSdgMgodlEwAxQ)

look at the picture of the back of the keyboard closely and you'll see what I'm pointing out.
