Title: I Like This Girl - AndyR Original
Post by: AndyR on August 01, 2012, 06:52:47 PM
New original from me, hot off the old wotsit.

When it was half written yesterday, I was considering binning it as a throwaway exercise - I do that quite often. But I played the songwriting demo to someone else and, er, apparently I should finish it...

So here it is finished. Hope they don't think the demo was better... :-[

My wife hasn't heard it yet. The "today" in the lyric isn't until Friday (two day's time). With a bit of luck I'm not in trouble...  :-\  I'll do some washing-up and get the hoover out soon.

Now, where's all the other crap I've binned? :D

I Like This Girl - A A J Russe

I like
I like this girl

I just came along tell you
What everybody ought to know
When I'm being silly
When I tell you that you're fine
You ought to know

You might think I'm crazy
You might be concerned about my health
I might try to make you dream
But I will always dream of someone else

She's picking up the pieces
Sweeping up the mess that is my life
Let's pour another glass
I want to tell you now about my wife

She's the one who makes it easy
The one who promised to be mine
And she's the one who understands
That I am silly all the time

When the sun is shining
I have to hide inside
But she don't care
She's so pretty in her garden
I can see her now
But she's not there

She gets so very tired
So I carry her to bed and come down here
That's when I sing to you
And all I give to you is what I fear

She's the one who makes it easy
The one I couldn't ever leave
And she's the one who understands
That all I do is make believe

I'm sitting on own
Waiting for a call from far away
I feel so very foolish
But that's alright
She's coming home today

I like
I like this girl

Oh, glad you didn't throw this one away - It's a great song! Sounds like something that would be listened/sung to at a pub.

The vocals are excellent and I love the way the guitar was recorded. I need to get this on headphones.

I definitely need to come back for another listen - And make sure you clean up before she gets home. I can only imagine what things look like! ;D

First song I've listened to today - and a great one again, Andy. Maybe add some instruments to build it up slowly and then add a "real" ending instead of a fade-out. I guess then it will have the potential for a real foot tapper. Reminds me of the 50s, and that's how I hear it orchestrated in my head. :)

Your wife will love it.

Don't ever throw away anything! Just put it aside and come back to it later. There is always something worth pursuing in every idea.

Regards,
  Steffen

I like... I like... I like this song.

I dig everything about this song Andy, from the music to the vocals and the very cool lyrics.

Mama's gonna be thrilled, Sir.

What a great tune brother! Those back up vocals just float my boat into clear skies & they've been rather cloudy as of late. Think this will be on my playlist for my morning drive!
Rock On!

:)

Thankee folks. I do kinda like it now (and I did when I was writing it, but you're never too sure)

Well, she's got a clean and crispy bed to get into now. Hooverin' most done. Still six hours or so to go...

Leaning back and listening to Dean Friedman... sigh... 8)

Oh, and Steffen, I never throw anything away :D - they all go in the box. But I only look in the box when I'm stuck, trying to impress someone, or just reminiscing...  If an idea doesn't grab me, it probably isn't ever going to be a song by me, but I do sometimes impress myself with something I wrote years ago and didn't understand :D

Andy you are such a talent! Wonderful song! I love Haylie's optimism about the house not being clean but no worries cause you've written her a song. My wife is standing over my shoulder as I write......(she's gone now- there is NO WAY I would get away with 'but I wrote you a song!' )

loved it

:D Exactly...

Oh, and Haylie, no, no meal required... she's eating before she gets here.

The main problem is that I seem to have drunk all the Merlot... :D (That might be why the lyrics turned out so real...)

Still, from previous experience I don't think she'll want any tonight. Fingers crossed, eh?

I went away for the weekend (singing) put the dishwasher on before I left Friday, came back on the Sunday and it was all still in the dishwasher, dirty bowls in the sink and my very gorgeous husband had fed the kids McDonalds all weekend. Oh and he's never written me a song!

I love that there is a little mystery to this song: Who, exactly, is the you in the song – the third person? It's some kind of confidant – but it could be so many things: a goldfish, a mistress, a mirror, a diary. That mystery held my attention, and elevated this song above the "I'm smitten by someone" genre.

The performance is great too. I can't remember hearing you sing with this particular affect before. It's low and intimate, with a bit of weariness. And this adds to the mystery of the third person.
