the bass (red) has such a slender neck its incredible. great bass tone, nice feel, though its pretty heavy. the guitar (black) feels great sounds great, is pretty light. i was a lil aprehensive getting epihone, but couldn't yet afford the real gibson ones. but i found out for themost part epiphone makes these to gibson specs. so i took a gamble. glad i did.

the marks on the guitar pick guard, i think its called are scratches, from it falling, nothing else happened so im glad it was only that, sucks though, but i figure i could prob by a new guard. so no big deal long as it plays great.
Nice Bass and guitar man , bet your itching to make sweet music with these beauties , Epiphone are a great brand , I'm sure you won't regret buying them

i did my captain beyond cover, as my first song playing SG bass and guitar and will continue to use them from now on. though occassionally i will break out my b c rich warlock guitar.
Nice BASS Phantasm777 ... this reminds me of my first bass.
I had a brownish Gibson EBOL. It had one pickup and the headstock
was like a classical guitar.

I just ordered myself black body Epiphone EB-3 Limited Edition Bass. So, it's really a great pleasure to read this thread with all positive comments. The music to my ears :)
sanfi4u other than the neck being a bit heavy, be careful it sill slide down when you let go, if you have a strap down. the neck is excellent nice and thin. the big pick up grabs the low end well. it's now my main bass. i love the look and the feel of it. i was very apprehensive of getting epihones but i read up on them and talked to those owning them and got a lot of good feedback.
Oh yeah, nice!! I had a G400 for quite a while, it served me well, wrote my first 40 songs with it. Not as pretty as yours is, but it played well. You're gonna love in time if you don't already.
Right on!
Mark
Several of my friends have used Epiphone guitars for many years and they still have them.
They play as good as the Les Paul's I've used over the years. A good choice.
Great choice!!!
I've got the Iommi G-400. I replaced all the pots, switches and jacks with real Gibson parts. You have to slightly drill out the holes when replacing the pots. The pick up leads were super extra long, so I shortened those. It makes a difference!! Not a real big one but the overall tone is improved and worth the effort.
I was just looking at that bass guitar! I'm a fan of Epi's!!
I need a bass guitar and I dont want to use the guitar to bass in the BR-80. I'm trying to do strictly acoustic but I would be happy with electric bass using an acoustic simulator. The Epi is about the same price as the acoustic bass I'm looking at. But I don't know how well the the "Acoustic" guitar model works with a bass guitar on a BR-80. We need for someone to try it! ;D
Again, great choice!! 8) 8) 8)
the tony guitar looks a lot like the goth SG. i've seen both before. very cool!
My Epiphone EB-3 Bass stands packed in a box beside the table in the hotel room. I'll take it back home tomorrow and will give it a try. I'm sure I'll like it after all of your comments :)
well? how is it? my fav bass is a rick, but so far this one is my next fav.!
I'm back home with my new Epi EB-3 Limited Edition Short Scale Bass. It looks great. Well made, very convenient to play and has a great versatile tone. As it's short scale it has no neck diving problem. Overall it's a very good bass for the money. I just love playing it. Attached please find a couple of pics. Hope you'll enjoy them.

your pics cannot be seen now but i saw them earlier. you have a short neck on your epiphone bass? how many total frets? i have the long neck eb3 but it is now my main bass and use it on everything i do now. same as my epi-sg guitar.

This is the 1960's Limited Edition Custom Shop Bass. It has 30.5" short neck and a thumb-rest as the original Gibson EB-3 in 60's. But this Epi has 22 frets which differs from original Gibson neck having only 20 frets.
I've uploaded pics to a different site. Hope you can see them again now. Enjoy!
Surface scratches on pick guards can frequently be polished out using a very mild rubbing compound.
If you cannot find any rubbing/polishing compounds locally, try Stewart-McDonald online.

They carry everything for building and/or repairing guitars and other strung instruments.
wow what great news, for me. i saw some loose plastic on my guitars pickguard, i thought i took all that off, i didnt, so when i did, gone were the scratches, what a freakin break. here i thought i really fucked it up while brand new and i didn't. thank god!
sanifi4u - how do you measure your neck from top of machine head to bottom of neck? in that case mine is 33 in. from first fret to last fret is 25 1/4 in.
i like thumb rests but i refuse to put a hole in my bass. it's too perty! :P
Quote from: FM on April 28, 2012, 04:47:12 PMhow do you measure your neck from top of machine head to bottom of neck?
Scale length is measured from the nut to the middle of the bridge (the maximum vibrating length of the string). My 1962 Gibson EB-0 is 30.5" which is considered short scale. The long scale EB-0L had a scale length of 34.5".

FM - I don't measure my neck at all. I just read the spec :). But they measure it exactly the way 64Guitars described. Thanks, 64Guitars!
i was looking at my specs and the bass AD SAYS IT MEASURES IN AT 34 IN. ooops on caps. but i've always used a long neck, though perhaps at my age a shorter one would have been better. aside of that i am so thrilled my sg guitar does not have scratches on the pickguard. luckily there was still a layer of plastic on it. what a break!
I bought an Epi EB3 in cherry. Its really killer for the money!! I changed the strings, straightened the neck and lowered the action quite a bit. It plays like a $1500 bass now! I haven't changed the pots yet.
77, you have great taste in guitars!!
because of iommi and others, an sg is my fav. but cannot afford one at the moment, the epiphone is working quite well and i do like it, as well as my epiphone sg bass. i had to adjust the neck as well and change strings. i prefer flatwound strongs and it had wire wound, i hate those. i like the flat for a deep bass especially since i pick-play with my fingers. epiphone bass and guitar SG's are definately worth the money. i have another guitar and bass but now i don;t even use them.
They're gorgeous guys. As I can see in the pictures, I wouldn't kick them out of bed either. LOL

Finally I've got me the EB3CS case from Sam Ash Direct: http://www.samash.com/p/Epiphone_EB3...Case_-49984811 (http://www.samash.com/p/Epiphone_EB3...Case_-49984811). EB3CS is an excellent case and a perfect match for my Epi EB-3 Short Scale Bass Guitar. Sam Ash Direct is a good shop with a great service. I'll be glad to deal with them again.
The g-400's are great guitars for the money. I recently traded for one and I am currently in the process of replacing the electronics.
the epiphone bass and guitar are my mainstays. I use them in every song.

Do you have a short scale EB3? What kind of strings do you use?
I've always used a long scale, perhaps the short one would be easier but ... too late now!
also I always use flat wound strings cause I like a deep booming bass, and immensely dislike trebley basses and all that thwapping of strings, sound. cannot stand that. I think my string are fenders but I threw away the package and do not recall. the next time I think I am going to get slightly thinner strings.
Hi Sanfi4u, I found 1960 ltd edition custom shop epi eb3. Very similar looking like yours . I want to buy it. I love the shape of it and I'm a Gibson SG Bass fan. The only thing that makes me stop buying it is the wood. I'm still not sure if it's solid mahogany or laminated wood. Do you know anything about it ? Because there is massive sound and weight difference between epiphone eb3 and Gibson eb3 . And some people says that it's laminated plywood. What do you think?

Sorry for noticing your question so late. Most probably it's been sorted out one way or another by now. But if you are still interested, Epiphone 60's Limited Edition Custom Shop EB-3 (2011) has mahogany body, mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard. You'll find the full spec here:
