Original Songs / Grey Day
Last post by karl1171 - May 29, 2024, 01:31:38 AM
Songs about weather? Strings? 'Bring me down'? I've obviously been listening to too much ELO...

I've managed to be unusually productive with this one so uploading earlier than i intended.

I've only included the lyrics this time because it sounds like I'm singing different words in places (I probably am actually). They're only the usual rubbish but this is what they're supposed to be.

Grey day go away ain't seen the sun since last Sunday
its starting to bring me down
You didn't want to see my face so I took myself to another place
Now I'm walking round the town
I took a trip out to the sea, the last time round you were here with me
Its been too long I fear
Funny how as time's gone by its still as clear in my minds eye
Remembering us here

When the days were long and the sky was blue, and I was walking next to you
Head on my shoulder or hand in hand, we'd sit for hours upon the sand
And now it seems that time has flown as I am standing here alone
And now its turned a little cold

Grey Day all around from the sky down to the ground
Its not as I'd expect
Took a walk along the shore, grease and litter on the floor
Suffering from negelect
Take a stroll along the pier wishing that you could be here
If you would somehow
You went away with your friends is this the way its going to end
Am I parting from you now

Grey Day blanket cloud it shouldn't really be allowed!
When will the sun come back?
Took a walk in the park the cloud might clear but its going dark
as grey turns into black

But when Nights were warm and beer was cold I never thought of growing old
Even if the weather wasn't nice I'd still think I was in paradise
I'd tell you how it was gonna be at every opportunity
Now I can't tell you any more

Grey Day here to stay, sitting in the old cafe
I got myself a drink
Too much milk in weak coffee What dyou expect for 50p
But it gives me time to think...

thanks Doug and Ray

I made a new version looking for more ethereal and peaceful sounds, which was Steve Hackett's signature, with melodic simplicity.
I used midi a lot and my computer's CPU really took a beating with frequent sputtering and sound cuts...I had to do partial renders by instrument group then mix and master the whole thing afterwards.
For the mastering I used Ozone 11 which, thanks to artificial intelligence (there it is again!) does a pretty amazing job automatically

21 audio and midi tracks in reaper and I felt like my computer was going to explode... I think I need a more powerful computer...

This is fantastic work, JP. The amount of effort in arranging this track is phenomenal and excellent production skills.

Quote from: Ron D Bowes on May 27, 2024, 04:16:28 AMAlways cool musical constructions JB. Always enjoy listening to your work. No exception with this song. Loving that bass.

I echo what Ron says. The quality of your songwriting is quite something. Another beauty.

This sounds like a very tough one to sing. I think you did a tremendous job. A fine song too.

Bloody marvellous. I love it. It cuts right to the bone, a wake up call that the whole world needs.

Apart from the message though you get lost in that beautiful music and gentle strumming.

Lovely journey Kenny, great to hear somebody in their zone. This is very uplifting.

Be careful though getting into the cleaner tones too much... I am finding it harder to rock out these days, I must be getting old!

This is great... super playing mate.

Yeah this is great Farrell. What grabbed me at first was the lyrics. I love the opening few lines and a lot of truth there. It's a great alt/rock sound with loads going on. Great quirky synth, but the the track is very accessible at the same time. Cracking listen.
