Great chord progression, melody and string work.  Love your lyrics.  Lots of gray days where I am of late.

Everything Darren says. Great track, Ron.

Everything Darren and Ray said...outstanding!

Could have sworn I had commented yesterday but seems I didn't.

Anyway I agree with Steve, a bit like a late 60s track with better production. I thoroughly enjoyed this. Great performances and beautifully put together. Fine song guys.

Wow - this is special.  So evocative.  Well done chaps - and if you want to do more Beatles style tunes...well, I for one would listen.   :)

Fine song here John. Your vocal delivery - and lyrical style - is quite unique.  And that sax is super cool.

Fine song.  The soaring chorus is so catchy.  Love the strings.  Oh - just got to the guitar solo...
Brilliant stuff.

Original Songs / Grey Day

Songs about weather? Strings? 'Bring me down'? I've obviously been listening to too much ELO...

I've managed to be unusually productive with this one so uploading earlier than i intended.

I've only included the lyrics this time because it sounds like I'm singing different words in places (I probably am actually). They're only the usual rubbish but this is what they're supposed to be.

Grey day go away ain't seen the sun since last Sunday
its starting to bring me down
You didn't want to see my face so I took myself to another place
Now I'm walking round the town
I took a trip out to the sea, the last time round you were here with me
Its been too long I fear
Funny how as time's gone by its still as clear in my minds eye
Remembering us here

When the days were long and the sky was blue, and I was walking next to you
Head on my shoulder or hand in hand, we'd sit for hours upon the sand
And now it seems that time has flown as I am standing here alone
And now its turned a little cold

Grey Day all around from the sky down to the ground
Its not as I'd expect
Took a walk along the shore, grease and litter on the floor
Suffering from negelect
Take a stroll along the pier wishing that you could be here
If you would somehow
You went away with your friends is this the way its going to end
Am I parting from you now

Grey Day blanket cloud it shouldn't really be allowed!
When will the sun come back?
Took a walk in the park the cloud might clear but its going dark
as grey turns into black

But when Nights were warm and beer was cold I never thought of growing old
Even if the weather wasn't nice I'd still think I was in paradise
I'd tell you how it was gonna be at every opportunity
Now I can't tell you any more

Grey Day here to stay, sitting in the old cafe
I got myself a drink
Too much milk in weak coffee What dyou expect for 50p
But it gives me time to think...

thanks Doug and Ray

I made a new version looking for more ethereal and peaceful sounds, which was Steve Hackett's signature, with melodic simplicity.
I used midi a lot and my computer's CPU really took a beating with frequent sputtering and sound cuts...I had to do partial renders by instrument group then mix and master the whole thing afterwards.
For the mastering I used Ozone 11 which, thanks to artificial intelligence (there it is again!) does a pretty amazing job automatically

21 audio and midi tracks in reaper and I felt like my computer was going to explode... I think I need a more powerful computer...

This is fantastic work, JP. The amount of effort in arranging this track is phenomenal and excellent production skills.
