my default sample rate on audacity is 41000 hz
my default sample format is 32 bit float.

is it best to remain with the 32 bit float as oppoed to the 2 other options of 16 and 24 bit?

also my pc sound can go to to 16 bit 48000 hz.

should i leave it at 41000 - 32 bit float?

or would 16 bit at 48000 be better?

not many people get my sense of humour - probably why I'm the most unsuccessful comedienne ever!

I guess it's something you have to hear live. Why not put up an mp3 of you saying - What's a Luddite

I think you mean 44100, not 41000.  Yes, you should use that. 48K is for video.  Use 44100 and 32 bit for the best results. The problem with 48K comes with "dithering", so when it comes time to burn a CD (which plays 16 bit wav), it will be easier for the program to deal with 44.1 K.

Oh wait, I re-read the OP: If your soundcard is 16 bit, it might not matter what you choose (other than 44100, which you want).  Most DAWs won't allow a 16bit card to work at 24 bit, it will have that choice greyed out.  I don't know what Audacity does, but if you choose 24 bit or 32 and it works, you're still using a 16 bit soundcard so you'll get 16 bit recording.
