I have looked for this manual on the disc which came with my BR800.  So far, I can only find the get started guide.  If there is a more "in depth" manual on the disc does anyone know which folder/file it is in?

It might not exist as a separate file. It might be included in the binary archives that get extracted to your hard drive during installation. In that case, you should find it in one of the directories where the software gets installed.

Look for something like this:

C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\SONAR LE\Documentation

Also, I would expect that there'd be a menu item for it in the Start Menu folder where SONAR is installed.

       SONAR 8.5 LE

Here's a link to the 178-page SONAR 8.5 User's Guide: http://c3.zzounds.com/media/SONARGuide.pdf

If you've registered your copy of SONAR LE, you should be able to download the 1576-page SONAR 8.5 Reference Manual here:

http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/SONAR/Files/SONAR85RefManual.aspx

Or here's a copy I found via Google:

http://www.midimanuals.com/manuals/cakewalk/sonar_8_5/reference_manual/sonar_8.5_referenceguide.pdf

This is for the full version of SONAR 8.5, so it includes information on features that aren't available in the SONAR LE which came with your BR-800.

Again, this is for the full version of SONAR X1, so it includes information on features that you won't find in the SONAR LE which came with your BR-80.

I just downloaded both the short and long versions

I skimmed through the short and it looks very good.

The Table of Contents in the long version is 50 pages.

It will take longer than an episode of Game of Thrones to get through the whole guide.   ;D

cheers,

Ian

There is also a manual of sorts that you get on start-up of Sonar LE if you click Getting Started - might be useful.

64Guitars - is there a way of viewing all your recorded tracks on Sonar in a linear sense (i.e. each track is represented on screen at the same time)? I think i'd like to see them all at same time when playing back. I think Audacity does this. And last question (!) what does mixing/editing entail for you? I only record very basic tunes usually no more than 8 tracks so it might be i'm better off using the mix settings on the BR80. It's only that I miss the ability to adjust settings during the mixdown like you had with the MicroBR and wonder if I could replicate this with Sonar/Audacity.

Str10 - yep, that's the slippery slope I started on. I got Sonar LE bundled with something, and now I'm chin-deep in the stuff!! However, the mixing possibilities with a Digital Audio Workstation ( DAW ), are extraordinary when compared to mixing on a BR model - I have the BR1200 btw.
Having said that, I would always use a dedicated recorder to input the initial sound-files: Guitar, Bass, Vox etc, and then transfer the .wavs to Sonar for mixing. Of course then, you can also do a 'BR-mix' of your recorded material, best of both worlds really.  8)
Yes, you will be able to see your recorded tracks together as they move across the screen - though I'm not too sure if LE is restricted to a certain number of tracks??
Good luck with everything.

Oh, this is a link to the LE page on Cakewalk Forums...should help a touch.

There's also a 'Getting Started' on the same Forums...lots of tips.  8)
