Idea for Sept / Oct Theme / Covers fest

I've been doing a lot of covers lately (partly because of participating in this fine community), but I realised that they've all been songs from the Seventies or early Eighties.  Nothing later than '83. 

Which made me think it might be nice if there was a Fest say for Music First Released This Year, or suchlike.  Not necessarily chart or pop music.  I think there is a lot of good music around in many styles.  It's not all about the 70's & 80's.

Be interested in what you all think, or what other ideas you have...

It's a great idea, Nick! But I wonder if a year is too short? Some of us old geezers don't know any songs or artists from the past year. How about songs from 2000 till now? We could call it Covers from the New Millennium.

A recent issue of Guitarist magazine has an intersting section on Surf music!
