I think "I Remember You" is a great song. Not embarassing at all.

"Roses Are Red (My Love)", on the other hand...   ::)

I'd stick to the "born in a British Commonwealth country" angle.  ;)

I'd prefer less yodel (Slim Whitman), but it's a decent song.  The other is a stinker...  :D

And I've just learned that Bermuda is actually not a Commonwealth nation, but British Overseas Territory.

UK it is.  :)

Quote from: AndyR on February 12, 2011, 11:06:00 AMHowsabout it for a Festival idea? You can only post one obviously (unless you allow more than one territory), "The Number One on the Day you were born"

Quote from: AndyR on February 12, 2011, 11:08:10 AMOK, mebbe some folks would be unable to contribute if they were dealt a particularly cruel No 1 in their eyes/ears! :D

Widen it to No1 in the Year?

Great idea! At first, I thought it would be too restrictive since members wouldn't be free to choose a suitable song. But then I thought that would actually be a good thing because it makes it a more interesting challenge. Each member has only one song they can cover for the festival. It's up to them to come up with a way to make it interesting and fun, even if the original song's a stinker.

I'll add the idea to the list of suggestions for future festivals.

I can't wait to hear Gnasty singing "Go Away Little Girl".  ;)

I agree with you...that week wasn't the best in the history of pop music...  :( Off topic: I was born on the 4th August 1962 and Marilyn Monroe died on the 5th. My mother has always mentioned it was a shocking piece of news here, too.

Just to be fair, everyone born before 53 has a choice of three:

Save Your Love - Rene and Renate
The Birdie Song - can't remember who
Power of Love - Jennifer Rush (my wife's suggestion)

There are lots of different charts. We won't worry too much about which chart you use.

Check out this site:

http://www.thisdayinmusic.com/birthdayno1

According to it, the #1 songs in the U.K. for April 1951 were...

April 1 - April 20 - "The Tennessee Waltz" by Patti Page
April 21 - April 30 - "Mockin' Bird Hill" by Les Paul & Mary Ford

I don't know which chart they use but it doesn't really matter. Any chart from your country would be fine.

This page shows #1 songs in U.K. sheet music sales for the 1950s.

It seems to agree with the other site I mentioned.
