Title: 'Inner Philistine' - original by Ted featuring lots of Geir
Post by: Ted on April 25, 2015, 11:20:43 AM
Big thanks to Geir for guitar. And when I wasn't happy with my own vocals, Geir did those for me too.

"Inner Philistine
©2015 Ted Johnson"
Ted: Bass, drum arrangement, keyboard arrangement
Geir: Guitars, vocals

Ted's analog stuff recorded on Micro BR.
Digital stuff in Garage Band
Geir's analog stuff recorded on whatever it is that Geir uses.
A celebration is in order. Let's go out and get some cheap red wine.
Congratulations: You finally found the courage to release your inner Philistine.

You wore your nails down, scratching and picking at the foil around the bottle stop.
Did it surprise you how easily it opened once you figured out the screw top?

Go get a manicure. Get a pedicure while you're at it. You can put it on your credit card.
Don't you feel better now? With those polymer extensions you can scratch and pick real real  real real hard.

You're cutting tin and breaking skin. You're a raptor with a TV remote.
You're watching shows, like normal Joes -- not an outsider reading Camus on a bloody sail boat.

Don't you feel better now?

[Repeat first verse]

Turn the ignition on the car you always wanted with the payments and mirror luck charm.
Your intuition was never keen enough to tell a handshake from a twist of the arm.

But did it work out like the astrologer said it would, was it in your astrological chart?
You threw the jerk out, with all of his pretentions, his bicycles and his African art.

Don't you feel better now?
Don't you now?

A celebration is in order. Let's go out and get the cheapest red wine we can find.
Congratulations: You finally summoned up the courage to release your inner Philistine.

You wore your nails down, scratching and picking at the foil around the bottle stop.
Did it surprise you how easily it opened once you figured out the screw top?

Don't you feel better now.

Thats some damn good lyrics, the whole song is a marvel, it soars and struts.  Hell of a hard song to sing, so many great words to spit out.  Well, I feel so good from listening to this, Ted and Geir, thats some combo.  Thats a song.

Nicely observed lyrics, lovely guitar (like that wah effect).  And Geir sounding like Mark Knopfler for me.

Good work.

Thank you !! And, most of all, thank you Ted for letting me be a part of this great song !!

Ted's lyrics are (as usual) brilliant, but as some have observed, not that easy to sing ;D well I did my best :) !

Glad you liked it !

Loved the piano you added since last I heard it Ted !!

QuoteGeir's analog stuff recorded on whatever it is that Geir uses.
That would be my BR80, with some editing and smoothing out of the vocals done in Auria on the ΠPad

Well, thank you, Bluesberry. That image of a guy on a sailboat, that's someone specific. I didn't know him back when he owned a sailboat, but I confirmed (through is girlfriend) that Camus was an author he would have read.

You did great with the vocals. I knew you would.

I originally thought this was going to be a punk song -- hence the speed. But once I got into production, it started to have a different feel, so I spent some time with a keyboard arrangement.

Awesome tune! Love the smoothness all the way through and to the end especially.

An Africa to Norway collab. Now that`s new :) The Ted lyrics are genius and Geir singing them is genius.

Great song!

This is super sweet, I love it. All parts are excellent and the bass line is brilliantly bad ass, like Butch Vig and his midwestern accent "Baayid Aayiss" or something like that.

And Geir isn't too shabby either. He might amount to something someday, you just wait and see :)

wow this does rock... actually very cool twists and turns... and yet sort of punkish but still popish too... it sort of reminds me of some of the rockers from the 70's by Elton John, stuff like The Bitch is Back... trust me I did plenty of listening to that stuff..
the vocals are super too...really got a lot of energy and performance...lots of soul...yeah... I like the comp here///

early Elton John.. and that is about as good as it gets.

note:  I just heard Surfing to Penzig on the my playlist the other day... so I was glad to see this bump by Launched.
