was fiddling about on the juno with some chord progressions.
and wrote a bare bones song. just drums and juno and voice. was going to build and layer more over the top of it, then i thought why not put it in the collaboration board to see what folk might add to it, then i thought why not add it to the backing track jam boards and folk can mess about with it as they please, should they wish to. for all i know folk might think its a pile of shit or it may never be found here lol.
anyway here are the words do with it as you please

Very beautiful song, nostalgic and hopeful at the same time with a great lyric as usual you Jim.
Cheers,
Damián
Jim I can hear some massive potential on this. I don't think I have the chops to do what I hear, but I am going to give it a crack. I'll PM you.

go Tony go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am looking forward to this. Play what's in your head Tony, it will sound great.
here is a version minus vocals. sorry i cant give you individual parts as drums and keys where recorded live to two tracks.
it's all good. I am going to wreck the vocal delivery, the rest can stand on it's own. hoping to get on this tonight and get you a rough draft at least.
ok guys the chords are
at the intro and verse doh, ray, me and fah
repeated a couple of times
then at the chorus it starts at soh
then it is all repeated again
near the end, a bridge i suppose it starts in lah
hope that helps

I wasn't going to post this because it is what it is, me trying to learn a song. Until this point, I've never been able to pick up a song by ear and learn to play it, which will soon be obvious that I still have a lot of room to grow. In a nutshell, I listened to the song a few times, then decided to record a track for the hell of it.
I could never tell majors from minors, one chord from the next, etc. I got a little help from Jim with what keys he played on the piano, so it narrowed down the possibilities quite a bit, but still requires some ear. I love having to "work" to find my way to bliss. Most likely, my next pass on this will be with a keyboard so I can work it out a little easier.
I wonder if everyone goes through a similar process, or do the chords just jump out at you seasoned guys?
If you know the chords I'm struggling to find (and you actually read this thread) try not to clue me in to what they are, I need to work them out for myself.
enjoy.

You forgot to mention if it was two white keys and a black or some variation of that ;D
there where white and black ones mark, i'm just not sure what they are called when they are all joined together. my head works linear in music as in up and down a keyboard, i could never in a million years do what tony has just done and do the same chords on a guitar. i am continually amazed when i meet up with guitarsts a few on here included and pick up a guitar say a letter and then play that letter and other guitarists in the room know what they mean. its like they speak a mystical magical language to me.
my main problem with the guitar is that all the strings are tuned differently so that really messes up with my linear keyboard head.
As my pappy used to say, if it smells like shit, flip it over.
In your case, you might have to flip the guitar 90 degrees and it'll be more clear.
if the guitar had one big long string but you could play more than one note at a time it would be perfect for me
or maybe i should get one of these
Here's what you need, James - a canjo!:

I might need one, too... ;D

20 friggin replies? I still don't have all the chords nailed. It's korg time for the rest.
lol. i bet geir could tell you with one listen , come on geir tell us.
noooo I need to learn how myself!
I know he could.
ok geir stay away.
I love this song
Seems like:
C Dm Em F (x3)
G F G F
G Em Dm F
C Dm Em F (x2)
G F G F
G Em Dm F
Am G Am F
Am G Em F
C Dm Em F (x2)
But I haven't got a clue what to add. It seems finished. (strings?) We could patch in a solo?
I have not given up on this, just got wildly sidetracked with that pesky Mark and his infinite ability to crank out songs when he chooses to get off the couch!
sidetracked in the best possible way, stay away from it tony and have a ball with mark, this will still be here for you.
wish i was there.
