Watched the DVD Telstar last night. Hmm. There was a quote about the 1990s film version of Titanic which said: There were 1400 stories on this boat, and this was the lousiest to pick.

I'm afraid Telstar suffers something of a similar fate. It can't seem to make its mind up which story it wants to tell: Joe Meek the paranoid Artist. Joe Meek the incompetent business man. Joe Meek's life as a public-toilet-visting homosexual. Joe Meek the pioneering recording genius.  The film itself is well-made and periodic, and certainly worth a watch, but just seems a bit directionless. Oh Well, perhaps a second view at some stage will enlighten more.

Am going to be dipping into the book below, to see what Eric has to say for himself?

Just started Charles Hamm, Yesterdays: Popular song in America, today.
It's a big story as he tells it.

I'm about halfway through "Defiance" - the biography of the Bielski partisans in Belorussia.  Grim reading but inspiring.  It will take me weeks to finish - the Sunday Times normally lasts me until Thursday....

C66 - Yep, but it's usually a darned good read. I mean, the amount of fashion tips from Style that you can pass on to any GF is incredible!!!  ;D

TJ - haven't read the pod manual but my last read was "D-Day" by Beevor.  Quite how he researches something like that is incredible.

Steve - I tend to speed through the Style section - unless there's an article on lingerie of course (oops - perhaps I've said too much).  Forgive my ignorance - what's a GF?

Peter Aykroyd's fascinating new history of Venice. It really is outstanding - especially if you love Venice, lol

Red Square Blues - A beginners guide to the decline and fall of the Soviet Union by Kim Traill.

My sister gave it to me because she knows the author and thinks she would make a good partner for me.  I did a bit of travelling around Eastern Europe around 1992 and the book is just how I remember it.
