It's an unbelievably sad day here.

Tragically Hip was my first concert. In 1996, about twenty of us crammed into two rented passenger vans and headed to Detroit to catch the show. We got there late after a debacle of trying to get across the US border. Walking up the stairs into Cobo Hall I heard them break into "Gift Shop" and my mind was blown. I had such a great time with my friends that night, I'll never forget it. They ended up recording that night and released it as their  "Live Between Us" album. I have the CD as a memento of that night.

My band covered about twenty Tragically Hip tunes and no matter where you went, you would always hear their music. Good, solid rock and roll with a little Canadiana snuck in there once in awhile for good measure.

I saw them a couple years ago at Caesar's Casino in Windsor, Ontario with a couple of the sames guys I went to Detroit with so many years ago and they killed it that night too. Just an unbelievably tight band.

Gordie wrote the soundtrack to many of our lives back in the 90's. He was our Bob Dylan, he was our Mick Jagger, and he was our Paul McCartney. Unbelievable songwriter and story teller as well as a fantastic rock and roll front man.

He made me proud to be a Canadian musician.

We will miss you Gordie.

I had read that he was sick a while back. And I was never a huge fan of the music, but I always respected the band. A friend and I did a live cover of Fiddler's Green as a duo some years ago. Somehow seems appropriate now.
