what's up with the "no ID tag" in red on some posts?

None of the posts that have that red notification will play on my phone, post or juckebox . Sometimes I can download them but Kenny Macs last tune wouldn't play after download. I believe it was on one of my posts not to long ago. Wondering what we are doing to cause the red...it frightens me.Rock on!

If you don't tag the mp3 before you upload it, it causes this red "no ID tag" message. Simple enough to avoid...

When you have your song finished & mp3 format, just right-click on it and choose "properties", then go to the "details" tab and enter the  title and other info like artist & year. You can also specify genre and which album it belongs to. I use Media Monkey which allows me to add artwork too, as well as doing batch tagging of multiple mp3s.

Yeah, I do that on all my songs in audacity. I think there are some other issues like commas and parentheses and such. I don't know...if it's just that...tag your tunes Kenny, I want to hear them!

Back in July, I added the ability to scan an attached MP3 file for ID3 tags and extract the artist name and song title to display that information in the player. It also displays some technical information such as the bitrate and codec used.

If people don't add ID3 tags to their MP3 files, then the "No ID3v2 tags" message is displayed. I made it red because I wanted it to stand out in order to encourage everyone to add ID3 tags to their MP3s. I've long suspected that a lot of the issues people have been experiencing with the players were mostly happening with songs that had no ID3 tags. Now I'm not so sure. I'm still seeing that pattern, but I think it might just be that the software or device that creates those files with no ID3 tags also has a problem in the way it encodes the MP3. I'm not certain though. It's just a hunch.

Even if the lack of ID3 tags turns out to be unrelated to the playback problems people have had, I still think it's really important to add ID3 tags to all of your songs and include at least the song title and your name. A lot of people put the song title and their name in the filename before they post, which is also a good thing. But, when someone downloads your song, there's no guarantee that they'll save it with the same filename. So your name and the song title could easily be lost. By putting it in the ID3 tags, you ensure that the information stays with the song, regardless of the filename. And most MP3 players (software and hardware) will display the artist name and song title when the song is played. If you don't include ID3 tags or you leave them blank, some players might display the filename instead but others might just say "unknown track" or "unknown artist". So it's always a good idea to include ID3 tags with every MP3 that you post.

A lot of audio editors and DAWs includes ID3 tags by default when exporting to an MP3. However, it's up to you to fill in the information. If you don't, then the player won't show the "No ID3v2 tags" message, but it also won't display the song title and artist name because those fields will be blank in the ID3 tags. I've noticed that in posts by several people. As an example, here's a recent post that has ID3 tags but no song title or artist info.

I've never done this but I guess I should start. So when doing this way and filling in the info do you have to do it to all those sections in properties/details? It has several: Description, Media, Audio, Origin, Content and File is already filled in.

Just artist and song title. Is all that is needed, tho you can complete additional tags as you like.
