Cool rendition Pinedog - very unique percussion for sure! This is one of NY's songs I thought of covering myself, but struggle to much with the singing - you did a great job!
Everytime I record my singing I keep hitting the delete button....there's just too many great singers on here and your one of them! |

Thanks Geir...you really area big part of why this site is so cool..
Satch...Thanks for taking time to listen and comment. Ya know, i never dreamed the day would come when somebody would think i sang well. Wait...maybe i'm dreaming now! omg! No but seriously...thanks. Not sure if you were in the post i made somewhere a while back about singing..but the gist of it is about "staying in your comfort zone". That means trying never to be somebody else. You'll die with the tone you were born with..can't change that..but evrything else about singing IMHO is adjustable. I've heard some good singers on this site..and of course a "good singer" is VERY subjective...but Kody and Greeny come to mind offhand. They sing in their "zone". I've been listening and taking notes and experimenting for the last 30 years and feel i may be finally starting to find my own "zone". I am probably the last person that should be discussing "good singing"..lol...so i'll put a lid on this. Thanks for the kind words. |

This is one of NY's songs I thought of covering myself, but struggle to much with the singing - you did a great job! Aw, c'mon Satchwood! With that tagline under your avatar, you've gotta do this one. If you're uncomfortable with the vocals, why don't you just post the music in collaborations and ask someone else to add the vocals? This NeilFest has shown that we have several members who can do a really good Neil Young vocal impression. |

If you ask mrs Rottenhead nicely maybe ORH will have a go .... but don't tell her I said that 'cause I might pay them a visit in the near future!! |

Well thank you kindly Bus! Appreciate the kind words and you taking the time to listen. That old casio is still in my studio...collecting dust. I learned so much doing that NY collection..If NY isn't an American Icon, not sure who is (uh-oh...wait...he's from Canada...) |

Wow - I almost missed this. This is a VERY tidy job, Pinedog. I think you've more than captured the NY spirit. The guitar and those little harmonic touches are just great. And then comes that big blistering solo. Your vocals feel very at home here, and they're not a great deal different to the great man himself! Neil Young definitely worked to his strengths vocally, as we all do. I'll never consider myself a singer - I just use what I have and carefully choose notes / ranges that won't give me huge problems when I try to hit them. I've improved since being on here though, as certain collaborations have forced me out of my comfort zone. Anyway, I'm rambling. You can play, sing, and this is a splendid piece of work. |

Thanks for checkin' it out Wiley, Mark, and Tim...you guys are too kind. I liked the song and it's so simple to play..there's like 4 or 5 easy chords in the whole song and as usual, Neil writes lyrics with great imagery and emotion. This song gave me the courage i needed to tee off on my first cd of originals. Bass playing is brand new to me but it's getting better. 'Bout the time i get all this together i'll be kickin' the bucket |

Great guitar solo there at the end!!! Really good job with this song, another one of your gems, you've got a real nice comfort zone going on there. |
