NeilFest 2009 Index
Funny thing: Of all the guitarists on this forum, from around the world, the one to answer the call to collaborate on this song was Satchwood-- just 145 miles "down the hill", as we say here in Arizona. I was delighted to receive his guitar parts--two of them; lead and rhythm--today. I've mixed them together, upping the bass as requested. I hope the guitar isn't too low. I thought we'd call our collaboration "BR users in Arizona Building A Lovely Song" or "BRAZ BALS" for short. (I haven't conferred with Satchwood about the name.) "Old King"

The fun comes across on this one. A nice listen.
BRAZ BALS for a name? Oh yes, I think so.
And I just want to say I want a doggie like Old King.

This was a lot of FUN collaborating on!! Ted has a great bass line, drums, and vox....and needed guitar.....shoot - that's like being asked would you like to put some icing on the cake? Although on this one, the vocals are definitely the icing!! Of course the brass ballzy bass line is just super too!! I'm still trying to figure out how you did the drums - everytime I try to read your fine explanation - I just stare off into space... So we're the Braz Balz - catchy....I use to be in a band (back in Michigan) called Raw Meat, so this name is great in my book Ted, you definitely got the cast iron set on this tune!! |

Just saw a perfomance of this song on the "Heart of Gold" film - been sponging up a lot of NY lately for some reason Ted - Clever drum programming - Read your instructions for changing time signatures and 6/4 is a big one to know. You also created a fine backer for someone to work with. Satch - excellent guitar as usual, these tracks definitely beefed the arrangement up big time. I liked your use of delay. Great tune! Mark |

And I just want to say I want a doggie like Old King.
More than 20 years ago, I wrote a song about a dog, and it was one of my most well-received songs ever. (It's called Dumb Animal, and you can hear it here.) What attracted me to Old King was my losing a great dog about three years ago. He doesn't have his own song yet. |

FANTASTIC. Really different, sounds great with the bass up front now. Great job guys, well done Satch for cool country-ish guitar.
Them BRAZ BALS rock. Just don't go out in cold weather though....
Cheers,
Nigel |
