Nice job! Especially for one take. The guitar sounds great and your voice sounds very similar to Arlo's.
I noticed that the level is higher in the right channel than the left. Was that intentional?
Which mics did you use?

First time i've heard you unplugged hoop , yes i agree with 64 , you do share a similarity with arlo's voice , it's very distinctive and very good , great 1'st take , what guitar did you use , any particular patches on MC and GT , nice one mate

Oh yes. Now I like the unplugged Hooper as well as the 'mixed to perfection' one! This is just great. You perform it so beautifully that nothing else is needed. Wonderful. |

Thanks for the kind comments, folks! To answer your questions ’64 and facemask…. Part of the reason for choosing this project was to try out a recording/mixing idea. The 12-string guitar (cedar-top Seagul) and one vocal were recorded in one live take in front of a stereo mic : two WM-61A electrocet condensers mounted on a home-made Jecklin disk. The disk was oriented to separate the stereo field Top and Bottom instead of Left and Right. So, standing up close to the disk…the top mic caught mostly vocal and the bottom mic mostly guitar. This provided enough stereo separation that it was possible to treat the two tracks separately during mixing. The Ex>P01:Flat effect was used during recording with the limiter turned on. Mixing: The vox (with some guitar bleed) was on Track 2 so the effects LOCation was set to Track 2 and then a modified ForNylon effect was applied and the vox was bounced by itself to a new track. Then the effects LOCation was set to Track 1 which was mostly guitar and the Ag3B Cmp was used. Two new guitar tracks were bounced from here, using a different EQ setting each time: One track predominately low-hz and one track predominately hi-hz. Then, with three tracks in the mix: One vox, one low-hz guitar and one hi-hz guitar, levels were set and tracks panned out… the guitars to 25 left and right and the vox to the middle. Then the mix was Mastered using DanceMix with some Lo bottom rolled off. ’64: The level in the right channel probably sounds a little hotter since that is where the hi-hz of the guitar is. Sometimes that sneaks up on me because I’m a bit more deef on the starboard side. |

’64: The level in the right channel probably sounds a little hotter since that is where the hi-hz of the guitar is. That's probably it. I was listening on my harman/kardon PC sound system which consists of two small speakers on my desk and a sub-woofer underneath the desk. Since the small speakers have very little low frequency response, the sound seemed to come mainly from the right speaker. It would probably sound a lot more balanced if I listened to it on the stereo sound system in my living room rather than on my computer's 3-speaker sound system. |

Nice one hooper, vocals and guitar.
I'm digging all the acoustic 12-strings I'm hearing on this board. I kinda miss the one I used to have (Yamaha 'Eterna'), even if it was a cheapie and had uncomfortable action... |

I love that "live in your living room" sound Hooper. Your vox are well done and your playing is solid. Don't need big productions to be good...and this is! |
