Thanks for all the positive feedback. I really appreciate the feedback about the vocals, I was really uncertain about this one and you know what it's like when you are too close to a track. I actually can listen to this now and not feel too self-conscious.
Love, Love, Love the bass there Nigel.
Thanks, I use a simple little root/fifth/octave pattern a lot and it seemed to fit this one well. Glad you like it.
So many guitar pieces, too!! I scares me after I'm up to 6 or 7 bounces - 40 tracks, wow.
LOL! I just counted, there's at least 11 bounces on this, the track sheet got a bit messy. I'm very anally retentive so I love fiddling about with all the possibilities of the MBR. There's not a huge number of instruments on this (bass and five guitars, plus three tracks of vox). However, I recorded the two main jangly guitars in stereo just to give me a bit more depth to play with, and I also recorded the bass in stereo to make it a bit "bigger" in the mix (even though it's panned L20/R20 so it's mainly in the middle of the mix). So I make things more complicated than they need to be which is why I don't post a lot - everything takes me a long time!
IS THIS ALL YOU!?!?!
Yup. Thanks for the kind words - glad you liked it.
I don't know what to say!! I listened to the other one in collabs. and to the video and this one. I like them all, but I do have to admit I think you have more feeling in your singing in the one in collabs.
That's very interesting Wiley. The basic track is the same - bass, jangly guitars and vox. However, I used a different mastering effect on this one, it was Mix Down. On the one in collabs I used Soft Compression because it made it feel a bit less busy and left more space for other stuff. I might try remastering this for fun to see if using Soft Comp makes a difference.
This is wonderful, Nigel. Real class. I agree with all the comments praising your voice - it's got a great tone. That part when the harmony comes in is just magic. The guitars on this one definitely add something to the 'stripped' version - to my ears at least.
Neil-Fest has definitely brought out all the (largely) hidden talents on this forum. What a success!
Thanks Greeny, appreciate that. I love this song so much I'm glad i did it some justice. And I agree - Neilfest has been a massive success. What a huge slew of great ideas it has thrown out!
Cheers,
Nigel
