NeilFest 2009 Index

This is a new mix of my NY 'Heart of Gold' cover with Bluesberry on harmonica and our very own 64guitars on bass and slide guitar (thanks guys!). I mixed all the parts in Audacity and tinkered with levels and effects etc and pretended I knew what I was doing production-wise, lol.

I think this is a pretty complete package now, and I'm very happy that this collaboration came about  Smiley

Beautiful production Tim! And that bass and slide really made it a complete song!

Good work from all involved. Great to see that 64guitars can take some time off from his duties to make music as well !!!

iPod material!

Great, subtle slide and the production and performance are just fantastic.  Just love the guitar on this one.  And I think you found the sweet spot in how you mixed the bass (something with which I wrestle).

I've downloaded this to the "Best of the BR" folder for ongoing enjoyment.

WOW, I am so glad that I was able to play a small part in this wonderful song.  I love the way this ends, my harmonica flows perfectly into 64s slide, into Greeny's final vocal, all wrapped up together in the final few notes.  I can't believe how it lined up so perfect.

Jeez, I got goosebumps - bravo!!! What a performance - the mix was excellent!

BB, as I've said before - that's some great harp playing.
Sweet slide, 64G's - quite a surprise and definitely a necessary addition.

I'm going to play this one all day!!

Thanks for the comments everyone. I'm not a slide guitar player at all and I wasn't really happy with my performance, but I thought the song needed something to take the place of the pedal steel in the original. I'm really pleased with the way it turned out in this mix though. Nice production Tim! I think Bluesberry's harmonica sounds much better in this mix too. It sounds crisper, and I think you added a bit of reverb to it which sounds great.

I used the BR-864's Slow Attack effect on the slide track along with some compression to increase the sustain. The sounds in the first few measures were made by playing natural harmonics at the 7th and 12th frets with the same Slow Attack and Compressor effects as I used for the slide parts.

Anyway, I really like the way this turned out. Tim's production, guitar, and vocals are great. And Bluesberry's sweet harmonica playing is the icing on the cake. Thanks guys!
