Hello All,

Have been listening to a lot of the posts, and am very impressed both with quality of recordings and the very varied styles of music, a great insperation to those of us stuck in a rut with our guitars.

So heres my first, and whos knows maybe my last, attempt at posting a song. its not an original song I'm afraid, only written one so far and it is still very much a work in progess. I'm amazed at how some of you guys come up with original ideas so easily, whats the secret?

Anyway this one is by dougie mclean, a scottish folk singer/songwriter, so my thanks and apologies to him, and its one of those songs that scotsmen sing about going back to Scotland, even though they are still at home, we have loads of songs like that...this one is my party piece.

The song sounds great man. Kudos. Here's a few tips based off of what I hear:

1. Have you tried different octaves when dual-vocals appear? Not sure what your intent was, but it might sound cool if you varied the melody of the backing vocals.

2. Maybe just a little louder on the drums would be in order.

Other than that it sounds great to me! Very interesting song too. When I get "stuck in a rut" booze usually helps out. My old lady doesn't like that excuse much though, hahaha.

Great work Ronnie!

I agree with Wayne, drums should be a bit louder and maybe other octave in the chorus. Other than that, its great. I love the fact that the voice has no reverb, this is a perfect example of a song that sounds great with no reverb on vocals.

Very nice singing and playing, this is a great piece.

Thanks for sharing and please don't make this your last one!  Wink

Thanks very much for your comments guys, much appreciated.
I was a bit wary about posting anything at all, most of the music I've listened to on here is original work......makes me a bit jealous, I've tried writing songs, but they all turn out a bit...well rubbish really.

I'm always impressed by anyone who can write some music and meaningful lyrics from scatch.

I'll turn the drums up a bit, and press gang my mate in to singing some harmonies on the chorus.

Cheers

That sounds really good.
I am not sure if you should turn up the drums. Perhaps try with different drumkit if you have to.
Great singing. I wish I could sing.

Yes, that is a good point, maybe another drumkit would sound better. The snare on that drum kit is lifeless.

Still waiting on my singing pal to arrive and add his bit, but I was thinking in the mean time if any of you guys out there wanted to add some backing vocals on the chorus's (or anything else you can think of to improve or change the song) please feel free, it would be fun to hear someone else add a bit.

I am right in thinking we can do that kind of thing on here?Huh

Absolutely. There is a section especially made for collaborations here but normally users come up with a song, post it here and then others users ask if they can add their bit as well so they end up collaborating. In the end I can always move the thread to the collaborations section if the users permit.

Don't worry about it just keep creating and sharing your great music!

I understand what your mean Pedro, I'll leave this one here for the time being, and see if I can improve on it myself, taking in to account all the constructful comments.

I'll record the one and only song, that I've penned myself and post it on the collaborations page, and see if anyone can help me with completeing it. It's all a bit on the country/cheesy side so far, but in my defense I was down and drunk when I wrote it. we shall see how it goes.

cheers just now
