Hello, can anybody hear me

« on: May 19, 2017, 12:26:19 am »

Song co written by Michel Rivard (Québec) and Maxime The Forester  (France)
Maxime Leforestier  wrote the lyrics : in this song Maxime wonders about what his young son ,5 years old,  could imagine when he left, several times and  several months to go on tour
This magnificent duet arises from albums respective "La sagesse du Fou" of MF in 1991 and "Le gout de l'eau" of MR in 1992
(If somebody can translate in english... it s too hard for me  Undecided

Un bateau de bois
Emporte papa
Tout au bout d'la terre.
Il verra la Chine
Et les îles opalines
Où les gens vivent nus.
Moi, j'deviendrai un homme,
Mes notes seront bonnes,
Il sera fier de moi.
Il me rapportera une bille de verre
Et un ver à soie.

Si la nuit m'fait peur
J'lui dirai que mon cœur
Est au bout d'la terre
Où les enfants des rois
Ont des sabres qui coupent
Et des chevaux vivants.
Moi, je ferai l'grand,
Je défendrai maman
Contre les voleurs.

Il me rapportera une bille de verre
Et un ver à soie.
{2x}

Plus tard il y aura les caresses des femmes,
Les secrets qui planent
Aux oreilles des grands,
Les départs à minuit, les tempêtes, les drames,
L'océan...

Et quelqu'un qui attend une bille de verre
Et un ver à soie.
{2x}

Un bateau de bois
Emporte papa
Tout au bout d'la terre.
Il chass'ra le fauve
Au fond des jungles mauves
Où le jour n'entre pas.
Je cach'rai ma peine.
J'attendrai qu'il revienne.
Il sera fier de moi.

Il me rapportera une bille de verre
Et un ver à soie.
{2x}
Il me rapportera une bille de verre... {2x}
Il me rapportera une bille de verre
Et un ver à soie.

It's really a great song, and you sing it at its best, JP!

Beautiful song JP - well sung and played. Nice guitar work.
I thought I'd take up your challenge and translate it into English.
From my memories of doing "Thème et version" at school, and a little help from the dictionary, je vous propose ma traduction:

A wooden boat takes Dad away
to the very end of the world
He will see China
and the opalescent islands
where the people live naked
Me, I'll become a man
My grades will be good
He'll be proud of me
He'll bring me back a glass bead
and a silkworm

If the night makes me afraid
I will tell him that my heart
is at the end of the world
Where the children of Kings
have sabres that cut
and living horses
Me, I'll do well
I'll defend Mum
against the thieves.

He will bring me back a bead of glass
and a silkworm

Later there will be the caresses of women
The secrets that float into the ears of the great
Leaving at midnight, the storms, the dramas
the ocean

And someone waiting for a glass bead
and a silkworm

A wooden boat takes Dad away
to the end of the world
He'll hunt wild beasts
In mauve jungles
where the daylight does not reach
I will hide my pain
I will wait for him to return
He'll be proud of me

He'll bring me back a glass bead
and a silkworm
