A Simple Man's music

WWW
« on: July 03, 2012, 09:46:13 am »

I’ve been trying to write a title track, to draw folks to the Voodoo Smile album. (which does not exist)
I want it to be the kind of song that's fun to play.
Give the drummer some… give the axe man some etc.
I may have to get serious about my guitar work for this one.
Especially in the chorus, I think the strength of the song may depend on it.
I'm sure you'll get the general idea of what I'm going for.

Reminds be of Lenny Kravitz's first (and excellent) DIY album 'Let Love Rule' before he hit the big time. This is f*cking stellar, Mr Nelson. A great groove and plenty of cool riffs. There's a Stonesy vibe to it too. The vocal-drum only part is amazing. It's all amazing, lol. As always!

wow! this is a killer one, I love the lyrics a bunch, love the vocals (harmonies are fantastic, and the spoken part is really giving boost to the song) your voice is making the best out of it. Now I'm not going to criticize solo guitar this time cause it's really fine LOL !

... forgot to ask, I'm really curious to know what kind of effect you used on vocals to render that 'voodoo' feel, if you can tell

I thought I had commented before. This is another proof of your great skills in songwriting, Nelson. Don't make yourself small, you REALLY have a LOT of talent!

Hey guys thanks so much for your time and your encouragement.

Max
The only Fx I used on my vocals is reverb and at the end panned far left and right.
As for my guitar work, Roll Eyes lets just call it a work in progress.  Cheesy

Greeny
The first album I heard of Lenny's was Circus and I was hooked. I forgive him his latest transgressions because he's just a rock star doing what rock stars do, giving the people what they want, to keep the money rollin in.
Glad you liked this one.

Yeah, I like this.

Like Greeny, I can hear a Stones vibe. I can hear something else too... what is it? Oh yes, on second listen, I think it's a Dire Straits vibe, song-wise.

And I love those drum and vocal sections too.

Nice one Smiley

Thanks for stopping by.
Stones and Dire Straits, I'll take that any day.

The original version of this is slower, more jazzy and had no bridge but I didn't feel that would work here.
So, after a heated conversation about songwriting rules, structure and dos and don'ts, the drum and vocal sections were born. In the bridge the word "LIFE" represents my "SONGS" and "ROLLING THE DICE" means taking chances, writing and structuring my songs by feel not always by established rules.

Again Thx
