Well...here I am again.  Cheesy

This local fest is very intreresting. I've already discovered, thanks to James, a couple of bands I had never heard before...so with this fest there is a great opportunity to share artists rather unknown outside of their Country.

With "Un giorno dopo l'altro" I'm probably playing a little "dirt", because if it's quite likely that no one here has ever listened to it, by the other hand it's a song quite popular here in Italy.

It was written by Luigi Tenco in 1966, one year before his suicide.

Its a very sad song.

Un giorno dopo l'altro
il tempo se ne va
le strade sempre uguali,
le stesse case.
Un giorno dopo l'altro e tutto e' come prima
un passo dopo l'altro,
la stessa vita.
E gli occhi intorno cercano
quell'avvenire che avevano sognato
ma i sogni sono ancora sogni
e l'avvenire e' ormai quasi passato.
Un giorno dopo l'altro la vita se ne va
domani sarà un giorno uguale a ieri.
La nave ha già lasciato il porto
e dalla riva sembra un punto lontano
qualcuno anche questa sera
torna deluso a casa piano piano.
Un giorno dopo l'altro la vita se ne va
e la speranza ormai e' un'abitudine

In English:

Day after day
Time goes away
Same roads
Same houses
Day after day, and everything as before
Step after step
Same life
Eyes looking around
The future they had dreamed
But dreams are still dreams
And the future has almost gone
Day after day
Time goes away
Tomorrow will be a day exactly as yesterday
The ship has already left the port
And from the shore it looks like a distant dot
Someone tonight too
Gets back slowly home, disappointed.
Day after day
Life goes away
And hope is something nearly usual.

***

Now, I've re-arranged completely the song, giving it a "slow-Nashville" mood, that in my opinion fits well with the sense and the lyrics of the song. By this point of view, the instrumental second part of my version isn't there in the original song.

Myself on guitars; Band-in-a-Box (MANY!!!) backing tracks. The voice of GianniC made the rest.

Here is the original:

Enjoy!

I love this. Simply outstanding. The steel-guitar, banjo and fiddle work give such a lovely Nashville flavour to the song. Beautifully played, sung and put together. I really love the country sound you've conjured up - I wish I could do that with my own songs!

This is wonderful Alfredo, what a fantastic feel you have created here. All those instruments sound superb, a real "slow Nashville" feel. Loveley treatment of a very interesting song, thanks for sharing.

Cheers,

Nigel

Fabulous cover. You sure can sing. Everything at the right place. Not a bit sad if you don't understand Italian

Beautiful music, Alfredo - this is the Nashville sound of the Sixties & Seventies, down to a "T"! GianniC, terrific vocal performance! My ears have really been opened by this LocalFest.

Bravo, gentlemen!  Cool
