so it's finally done, the best cover i have ever made. I was watching a documentary on Brian Wilson of the beach boys and it said that this song was his masterpiece. i thought....."do i have the skills to recreate this, i want to test my skills." So i did....I did did all the instruments that you hear, I also did the lead vocals and bass backing vocals. My good friend Clarke McMurray did amazing harmony vocals, and helped me with mixing.

"When I was a kid, my mother used to talk about vibrations. She used to tell me that some dogs barked at some people but didn't bark at others......Apparently this is because some people put off strong vibrations. Anyways this song's called Good Vibrations" - Brian Wilson

Wow! That's amazing. You've really nailed this song.

I think most of the people here at Songcrafters like to do covers completely differently and make them their own. But I'm one of the minority in the other camp. I like to work out each part of a song as accurately as I can and try to duplicate the original recording as closely as possible. I find that it's a great learning experience and it gives me a greater sense of accomplishment when I'm done. I imagine you're feeling a huge sense of accomplishment on this one because you've done an amazing job of working out each part exactly the same as the original recording. If I heard this playing somewhere and nobody said who it was, I'd think it was The Beach Boys. It's that good. Well done!

the drums were programmed by me using the program Hydrogen.  then i exported the midi into garageband and used the Addictive Drums VST on it.  The theremin was a VST instrument i have, i used a keyboard to trigger it.

all tracks were recorded into the boss br-864 using a line out from my Imac.  I used a MIDI keyboard, Garageband, and various VST instruments to get my tones. I then transferred everything to the computer, and final mixing was done by using Propellorhead Record.  Bass was played live, same with guitars.

Holy crap!!! What a great effort. I'm in the camp of "make a song your own" but i can still appreciate the skill, talent and effort that went into putting together such a great cover.............. i'm starting to think maybe you just uploaded the original  Cheesy

It's one thing to nail a cover song, but to completely nail a song as revered and complex as this is another.

Everything sounds so true to the original, and those harmonies are just amazing...sounds like you had the Beach Boys visit your house and record them!!

Amazing job!

Wow!   Shocked  My bro told me to come over and take a listen...

A masterpiece indeed! With each musical part and each step of the production you're walking in the footsteps of the masters.  Quite an accomplishment and it just sounds soooo good. And the astonishing attention to detail.... just a real joy to listen to.

Congratulations!  Smiley

I've contended for a while now that this is the most perfectly constructed pop song ever written, and for you to pull off its many layers is a feat.

Nice job and more impotantly, a great listen.

Strange, I wrote a longish comment last night and now its gone.  Oh well.

Basically I said I agree with 64G, I like the covers where a musician has carefully isolated each part of a song, mastered it, and put it back together.  You have done this beautifully here; with keen attention to detail, and highly skilled musicianship.

Each part is duplicated near perfectly, both instruments and vox.  And your mix is brilliant; balance, panning, loop effects, all are spot on.  I'm amazed by the drums, I've never heard canned drums sound so much like hand played.

Superb job rich, and clarke too. Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin
